When Did Your Stomach Stop Hurting

Recommended Posts

Seems like every other time i have a "meal" my stomach hurts when i take a small bite or a few seconds after the bite. Tomorrow i will be two weeks out and can start pureed foods. So I'm on yogurt blended cottage cheese, Soup, Water.. you get it.

Did it take anyone else a while before they stopped hurting during meals. I'm starting to think I'm never going to be able to eat without being in discomfort. :(

Well tomorrow for me will be 3 weeks and let me tell you that yesterday I had chicken and I was sick all night long. I felt like I had the food stock in my chest.

My doc told me that the pain will start to go away after about 6-8 weeks post surgery. Good luck to you

I am 3 weeks tomorrow too. I just took 3 bites of an egg. My tummy is going crazy. I am glad to hear the 6 to 8 week thing. It's better than it was. It doesn't hurt to drink Protein Shakes anymore or take a few bites of Soup so things are moving in the right direction. I know I am in need of working on my patience :-D

I am a month and week out and my understanding is that if your stomach was hurting after you eat it might be too full ( thats what my dr explained to me anyway) it is like the new normal I wasonly able to eat maybe a tablespoon combined of anything I ate cottage cheese ,yogurt, etc etc etc OR it is too dry to go down most people now need to eat foods with most moistness to them OR maybe your body is not able to tolerate the foods anymore I can't take alot of veggies anymore kills my tummy maybe you need to take a few steps back and drink liquids one day and see where that brings you ...anywho like i said I am this far out and unless I over eat or eat to fast the pain eventually lessens my dr's rule of thumb if you can't tolerate food go back and do a 24 liquid diet These are my experiences and my opinions hope they help :)

Sometimes things sit well, sometimes they dont.

The same cheese stick that went down like a dream yesterday can feel like an angry rock today. Even the "good" or "easy" foods can hurt on your worst days.... Its kinda a crap shoot for a while.

But in the meantime, stick it out. It will get better.

I would not transition over to another phase yet.Go back to shakes and see if you still hurt. It may be a sign you just arent ready for softs or mushies. Take the smallest bites and wait about at least 30 seconds between each bite.

Six days out from surgery and I am thrilled that I can finally take a small mouthful of liquid without agony and slimes. Good to know about the 6-8 week period - with the way I feel now,m I figured it would be that sort of time frame.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
