my surgery is June 4th. My doc told me not to take anything 10 days before surgery. This dang Migraine would have been gone if I was able to take my excedrin or aleve. Can some one please tell me what I can take?

They allow me Tylenol. It doesn't mess with the liver as much.

Lay-Lay, I'm only allowed Tylenol as well. I've had two Migraines since surgery, on the same day. One was the silent, behind the eyes type, and the other was a full-fledged Migraine. I took my tylenol, laid down with a cool cloth and killed every noise maker in the house. Both went away fairly quickly and I figured out later that I ate something with MSG in it, which is a trigger for me.

One migraine since surgery is pretty good, IMO. I used to have about 1 a month, so 1 in 9 months is awesome! Especially considering that I figured out the trigger immediately. :)

I suffer Migraines and even have received occipital nerve blocks and botox in my head and neck for them, but I still get them. I am allergic to Imitrex and other medications and the only medicine that helps me is Excederin Migraine.

If mine get bad, I take a warm shower and then get into a cold dark room and throw a cold pack on my neck and a cool washcloth across my eyes, normally with a fan on and I chill my head down. The warm shower usually makes it so my head cools off faster. I often use Vicks Vaporub across my forehead (expect to wash your pillow case). It's a few of the things that has helped me. I have suffered from these since the age of 5. I hope it goes away soon.

Tylenol is actually NOT okay for your liver. Granted, the amount you would need to take for it to become toxic is probably way up there, which is why people who attempt suicide with Tylenol/Acetaminophen usually destroy their livers. Tylenol IS okay for your stomach. Excedrin is the same, except with added caffeine. There is a recall right now on Tylenol and Excedrin (at least in Georgia, I don't now if it's nationwide.) CVS has store brands of both.

I'm on medicine specifically for Migraines (Imitrex/Sumatriptan) and took it before surgery and while in the hospital for surgery.

My Migraine ritual - lie completely flat (I usually lay on the floor) in a dark room. Tie some sort of scarf around my head (the pressure on my forehead helps - my mom used to press on my head when I would get them as a kid), small neck roll pillow with ice at the base of my skull. I actually have a neck pillow (the kind that are shaped like a U) that came with the ice pack and a pocket to put it in.

Whatever you do - I hope you find some relief.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
