This Is Just So Frustrating! Doctor Selection....

Recommended Posts

My wife and I were both sleeved on May 15th by Dr. Fernando Garcia in Tijuana. We were at Mi Doctors hospital and because we both had the surgery, our cost was $4800 a piece. That includes hospital stay (which was the best care I've ever had in a hospital), surgery (did not have ANY complications to date), hotel stay for 3 nights (Marriot was very nice and had great service) and transportation (the driver, Samual Jr, was right on time and a great dude).

From what I have seen on this forum, everyone loves the doctor they chose. So what that tells me is that they are all good and are all qualified! So my advice is to choose one that you are most comfortable with, for whatever reason, and don't second guess your decision. I'm sure you will be in great hands wherever you go.

It's an easy surgery to recover from. I went back to work 6 days after and could have gone back 3 days after.

I am a low BMI with zero comorbidities, so I can't be approved by insurance. I was gonna self pay here in the states but when I started researching it, I liked Dr Kelly. My insurance covers NOTHING so he will be doing all of my care!

We went to www.ready4achange.com Alma was our coordinator. She was great! Even if you do not use that service, I encourage you to browse through the website. There are a ton of great things for you to look at and do research with. You can view several doctors and their credentials. Hope this helps

I used Dr Garcia as well and have nothing but good things to say about him. I am six days post op and things are getting better each day!!! Down 11 lbs.

Like the others said the decision has to be yours and yours alone... Very personal.

I have a blog, check out my signature for the link

Hi. As a revision, I wanted to find the doc who had lots of success with lap to sleeve procedures. After hearing from a few folks, I decided to go with Dr. Aceves. Nina, his coordinator, is an angel and gets back to me within 24 hours with all questions. I am scheduled for the 6th. With this sort of surgery, cost was certainly a consideration (10,500) but finding someone with tons of experience, a low complication rate, high rate of success and on site access to ICU was more important. I could not find someone in the pacific northwest his level of experience and track record.

Plus he has a great nustache. ;-)

It seems everybody is very happy with the doctor they chose - my friend and I went together to Dr Garcia - was $5000 plus airfare - Alma was our coordinator - he does only 4 surgeries a day - he doesn't do the cattle call thing lol!!! Great doctors great nurses awesome driver fantastic hotel - I can't say enough good about my whole experience I am 10 weeks out and lost 46+ pounds. No complications or pain from minute 1. I have emailed Dr Garcia a few times with progress reports and he has always returned an email within a timely manner - less than 24 hours. Good luck on the decision - it looks like you can't go wrong.

I would agree with everyone! These doctors work hard at providing us with a good experience. I don't think you can go wrong as long as your wants and needs are met, and all your questions answered! Good luck!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
