Souledout 31 Posted May 27, 2012 I'm trying to decide where to recover. I am considering going to my hometown which will be about a 6 hour car ride from the hospital. What are you guys' thoughts? I can always recover at my own apartment which is about 1 hr 45m away but really don't have as much of a support system. Any advice from the post sleevers? LeahDiarrhea 50 Posted May 27, 2012 I have been thinking about the same thing. I can either recover in my apartment that's downtown and close to anything I may need or I can go an hour out to my parents house in the secluded mountains where I can get fresh air and momma love. This one is tough! I almost think staying home would be more comfortable...
mmorral 19 Posted May 27, 2012 I was able to recover at home after I was discharged from the hospital. I had my husband take me home but I was able handle everything myself. I just suggest to plan ahead and have your Protein shakes, broth, Soups, etc at the house ahead of time
klus263 9 Posted May 27, 2012 If you decide to travel the 6 hours, it is recommended that you stop every few hours to get out and stretch-this is also important to prevent blood clots. I also for the first month of traveling in a car used a small pillow across my stomach for the seatbelt for some protection.
BeautyVGSJourney 99 Posted May 27, 2012 Would you be driving? I had my surgery in Mexico. I was alone there, I did have a grea coordinator ad sleeve sisters bt I felt pretty well a couple of days post op. I was in the hospital two days then in a hotel two more days then I flew home. I felt pretty good but not good enough to drive drive for any amount of time. The lack of food scared me. If someone is driving you it would be nice to have some company for recovery specially in days that you are not feeling well and you might need some extra help. The drive should not be bad if someone else is driving, just make sure you stop at least every hour and walk around to prevent blood clots (it's what my surgeon suggested) and if possible wear some compression stockings. My worst fear as always been blood clots because they can kill you silently and fast! I made a YouTube video about preventing them. Good luck in your journey! Leusch 2 Posted May 27, 2012 As nice as the thought of my childhood bedroom is, I'd have to go for my current home! I also cannot imagine a 6 hour car trip just days after major surgery. The 40 minute ride to my home was more than enough for me.
