10 Days Away From Surgery Date June 5Th!

Recommended Posts

I had my pre-admission testing completed on Monday. I got a little freaked out when they told me the inside of my stomach will most likely be so swollen after surgery that it will be the size of a coffee stirrer & even a strawberry seed could be a major problem if swallowed. Other than that I am excited and ready. Is anyone else having their surgery in early June?

Hi Amom2twins,

There are many people having surgery in June. There's a section for June 2012 June Sleevers located here: http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/forum/198-june-2012-sleevers/

There's a section called June Sleevers Compilation - Good Luck & Well Wishes and I put your name, on the June 5th with your surgeon.

My surgery is June 4th and I'm on day 6 of 14 pre-op Protein shakes and gosh it's been tough. Lots of people have had to do different things, some have gone through six month programs before getting approval from insurance, some are self-pay that are having surgery in Mexico, we all have different experiences but it's nice to see that there are so many people having surgery in the same month as you and be able to learn from and give support to.

The Compilation is located at http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/39508-june-sleevers-compilation-good-luck-well-wishes/ there are several people having surgery on June 5th!

Best wishes for an easy pre-op and good luck!

Thanks for adding me to the June sleevers section & good luck to you on your surgery as well. I don't have to do a liquid diet pre-op except for the day before surgery. I love to drink pop so it will definitely be an adjustment going without it (I love the carbonation). I know I will love having a new healthy body better than any pop or food so I am very excited about making this positive change in my life.

Good luck to you, you may want to give up caffeine before surgery, so you don't have caffeine headache withdrawals right after surgery. It's usually bad enough to have surgery, but to go through that after surgery will kinda suck. I did it before the pre-op shakes and now it's not so bad, right now this seems like the longest 14 days ever lol. :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
