So I don't feel hungry however I am craving food. I had my surgery may 15th and doctor said I can't eat anything I want that is soft! So chilli was great but only could have about 4 tablespoons. I am craving a sandwitch and a burger, I can't eat that yet so how can I get over the crave???

Learning to get over head hungry was difficult. It took me about a month and I still have little slips where I think oh I can have just a little of that. The best thing to help me keep it in control it how much of a risk and challenge I took to have the surgery. It was a major decision and expense, so don't screw it up over a burger.

Prior to surgery did you work on cutting out/down on sugars and breads? I've been working on this and have noticed my cravings have decreased significantly.

Yes I cut out some sugars and most all bread. I never was a big bread eater and when I had some it was rye bread. However I am now craving it yet I never was a fan of bread. And I don't care if I eat sugary stuff. I eat a popsicle or some yogurt and I'm fine. But it seems like now after 10 days from surgery I am craving food more then I did before surgery

well, actually, there are lots of food blogs, i really had the help of watching the food network, or looking at pictures of food on food blogs, as silly as it sounds, it really helps

Since I am pre-op I wonder if I will experience something similar. I have heard that I taste buds/preferences may change after surgery. I wish I could offer some words of wisdom. I hope this ends quickly for you.

I went through the same thing the first couple of weeks after surgery, I was craving everything especially carbs, macaroni, potatoes etc, but after a couple weeks I started losing taste for the things I was craving, I haven't had any macaroni or bread since right before surgery, I would have a little mashed potatoe in the very beginning after surgery cause it was easy to eat but after a couple of times I don't eat that anymore, the only thing close to carbs I want now are mashed turnips or cauliflower (which I never ate prior to surgery). I really don't want any of the other stuff anymore. The only thing I still crave once in a while is chocolate which I will have a hershey kiss a couple times a week and I'm good. I don't even want to hear about soda anymore and I was a diet pepsi freak, all I want to drink is Water now. This surgery has changed me alot! So I wouldn't worry about the cravings I'm sure they will go away after awhile. :D

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
