136HereICome 11 Posted May 26, 2012 I am trying to figure out how many days I will need to take off from work to recover from the surgery. I don't do any lifting at work but I do have to drive about an hour each way and interact with several customers throughout the day. How much time did you take off? How did you feel when you returned? I hear many people say that they have very low energy and are too tired to make it through the day. Any recommendations
claudiahayden 6 Posted May 27, 2012 I was only off a week before I went back to my desk job. Sent from my iPhone using VST
legal loser 77 Posted May 27, 2012 I was off 2.5 weeks. I have a desk job and was very tired and didn't make it through the day for the first 1.5 weeks back. I wish I would have taken another week off BUT was so ready to get back into the swing of things. I have a great boss and he had no issue with me leaving early. Told me to take care of me first. alliegb3 112 Posted May 27, 2012 I haven't gone back yet, but I took two weeks. One would've been fine for me though
136HereICome 11 Posted May 27, 2012 When I gave birth to my son via csection I was up and about after about 5-6 days so I am guessing the recovery will be similar. I don't want to take off more time then I need because I am using vacation days not sick days since I am not telling anyone at work about my surgery. Has anyone had a csection how do the recovery times compare?
Back~To~Amy 307 Posted May 27, 2012 I'm still preop but my doctors office has already filled out my paperwork. They put three weeks down and told me if I need more, they will extend it. ~Amy

topgun 63 Posted May 27, 2012 3 weeks. You need to get used to your sleeve. You will have very reduced energy for at least 3 weeks. Don't rush it. I did and I really regretted it.
GeauxForIt 659 Posted May 27, 2012 I'm wondering how long to take off, too. I have a desk job, but I do have to climb pretty steep stairs to get to my office and I commute just over an hour each way in heavy traffic. I was thinking one week off and one week working from home but I'm really worried it won't be long enough...
Mews 37 Posted May 27, 2012 I would recommend about a month off. That's how long it took me to feel normal again and handle the rigors of a long commute and day. You can always go back to work early if you're feeling better.
alliegb3 112 Posted May 27, 2012 This is faster and easier than a c-section. I took off two weeks. I can go back after 1, I feel great. 2 is perfect though
psdgino 1 Posted May 27, 2012 My Dr said that after two weeks you can't hurt anything. Said its more of an energy issue. I have seen that. I'm taking three weeks and go back to work this week.

Cerebus 2 Posted June 14, 2012 I had my surgery on a Monday morning and was back to work the following Monday. As a contractor, I don't get PTO so I couldn't take off any more than necessary. However, that was too short IMO. That first week back at work I felt like crap. By the second week, I felt much better. So for me, 2 weeks off would have been ideal.
