Any O.N. or Graveshift workers?

Recommended Posts

My dh and I both work the O.N. or graveshift. DH works 5pm-3:30am and I work 11pm-9am. We generally sleep till 3pm then get up and eat our supper meal together. Then dh is off to work shortly there after. I then have a small bite to eat around 8pm and then off to work by 10:30. I am able to snack some at work, but I try to choose healthy Snacks. I generally eat a yogurt for Breakfast at work or oatmeal or something similiar (around 6am). I get home around 9:15am and then stay up till 10:30, then head to bed. Any one else work the graveyard shift and how do you eat and exercise and all that good stuff?

I work 7 PM to 7 AM and exercise as soon as I get home. I have breakfast at 10 AM and go to sleep @ noon. dinner is at 5 PM and then I pack a lunch to take to work and have that at 3 AM. On days off, I go back to a "normal" life.

I am (reluctantly) retired right now, but I spent much of my work-life on the "grave-yard" shift. It was the worst shift for weight control. In a way, you are lucky that you and your spouse both work nights. My wife was a house-wife raising our son while sleeping human hours, so every week, I reverted to day-shift for two days to be with my family. I was in constant jet-lag.

Recently, there was a study which showed that sleep depravation enhances appetite and increases poor food choices. One of the best things you can do to control your appetite is get enough sleep.< /p>

I am a 911 operator and I work midnights 11pm till 7am. Soon to be changing to 12 hrs shift 7pm to 7am. But I may move to the 7am to 7pm. I love midnights and always traded my shifts when I was a cop to work them....very few bosses and BS on midnights.
