Had my surgery May 22 and everything has gone as planned. I'm following my post-op diet to the letter, have been getting my 64 oz of Water each day, etc. But I'm still experiencing major bouts of hunger. I don't mean "head" hunger, but actual stomach growling. And no, im not confusing this with bowel activity. That has a distinct feeling. Having some Jello or Liquid Protein will keep it at bay for a little while but it comes back with a vengeance. I'd heard so many people say they weren't hungry for two months after surgery. So is this normal? How long will it be like this?

Hi! Welcome to the loser's bench! So, hunger varies from person to person. I was sleeved 3/12 and distinctly remember feeling as if I was starving. I think I stopped feeling that way after a month out. It gets better gradually over time. I also remember smells made me feel really hungry too. I even wanted food that I usually hated because everything smelled so yummy. Hang in there. I wish u a speedy recovery.

I was soooo hungry for the first 10 days of mushies. When my stomach growled it hurt like crazy. I dropped everything to get to food. Then it went away for 2 weeks and I was never hungry. After that time period it sort of crept back in. I have decided that if it has not been at least 3 hours already since my last meal, the first thing I will do is drink something. This serves two purposes: #1 Lots of times my stomach now growls when I am actually just thirsty. #2. If I was not just thirsty, I have to wait at least 30 minutes. Since I have the time on my hands anyway, I take the time to prepare something really healthy and yummy. By the time it is ready, I am good to go. I do still feel hunger, but not the way I used to. I feel it more above my diaphragm and less in my stomach. Often now, it feels like I want to burp and that really isn't the problem. Good luck figuring out your body. For me, it is beneficial that I feel hunger because I only ate once a day pre-op and hardly ever felt hunger. This is keeping my metabolism up so that I don't fall into old habits.

I'm there with you. I eat or drink every hour so I just start drinking then the next hour eat (after 30 mins) then gotta wait another 30... It goes on that cycle- but I'm hungry too. Had mine 5/21.
