MegInNOLA 531 Posted May 26, 2012 Sounds like your doc is prepping you with a relatively low-carb diet; it's not uncommon. I didn't have any sort of pre-op diet. Just depends on your surgeon's preferences. If you're hungry, eat something from the list! If you can have meat, that Protein will fill you up fastest. Hang in there. If you're scheduled for surgery in a few days, it's worth the few days of struggle on the pre-op diet in order to give best results for your procedure. I'll watch for your updates--you're about to join the loser's bench!! :-)
mnbsleeve 87 Posted May 26, 2012 I too had a combo of shakes and food for pre-op. I had a shake for Breakfast, one for lunch, and about 4 oz of lean Protein, NO FAT, and about a cup of steamed vegetables. I could also have buillion, SF Jello, and SF popsicles. I did that for about 3 weeks. The three days prior to surgery were 100% liquids only. Hang tight Sammy! You will get through it. Take it one hour at a time if necesary. Just remember how much you've been through to get here. Go on walks, see a good movie, read a book.... one hour at a time. You're almost there. Will be thinking of you and sending lots of good vibes your way!!!
chitowngirl 886 Posted May 26, 2012 Yes, that's pretty similar to the diet that I had pre-op. it did help me loose, and as you may think your starving, trust me it would be aot harder if you were on a liquid only diet.
Star1221 270 Posted May 26, 2012 I am sorry you are hungry. That does stink. I was on a liquid preop diet. So I don't know what it would be like to go though with still eating food. I actually think the liquid would be easier. Only because with food still going into your stomach it never has time to get numb from lack of food lol. My only suggestion would be lots of SF Popsicle and Jello. Keep it up. You can do it. It is definitely worth it in the end.
