I was sleeved 5/21 and I find myself hungry. I am on full liquids. Do you think it's just the liquids sliding through? I can drink like 1 c of. Fluids at a time and 1/2 c of Soup and I do them every 1- 11-2 hours. It just seems like a lot to me...

Are you in Prilosec or another PPI to reduce acid in the stomach? Sometimes that can be mistaken for hunger.

Are you constantly drinking something or are you trying to drink/eat and wait a while? I was told not to do the "don't drink 30 minutes before and after meals" only once I got to the puréed/soft food stage. Therefore, what I've been doing is that I have a Water bottle I fill with a Protein drink (diluted) or with crystal light & I sip from it every few minutes throughout the day. I don't use it while I have Soup or pudding or popsicles, but any time I'm actually not eating something, I'm taking sips. I don't feel any actual hunger. I do feel an "empty" feeling when I get up in the morning or after I get up from a nap, but even that I don't consider hunger like some people do, it's more that I know my sleeve is empty and I need to eat/drink something. I'm constantly sipping when I'm awake & don't feel hungry or deprived at all. Even once I start my puréed stage, I'll be constantly sipping up until 30 minutes before a meal otherwise I won't be able to get all my liquid in during the day!

I was also sleeved Monday and am sort of having the hungry thing too. But when I step back I'm not sure it's physical...I think it might be in my head :( But I'm pretty much sucking something down all day long. Protein Shake, Water, Soup. I seem to be able get down a cup of soup in 45 mins or so which my post op guidance says is too fast...but it doesn't cause me any probs. but even with constantly putting something down I'm still barely getting 400 calories. I figure it's okay until I can get to full liquids or mushies. I'm just trying to stay busy and constantly putting liquids down. Good luck!

My Greek yogurt does seem to fill me up. But I am just nervous I guess. I drink (sip) all day except for my NUT says 10 mins before and 45 after (I usually at least wait til 30 after 45 seems a bit long) and I drink and drink.

We are all sleeve buddies... It sounds dumb but I am excited to have some people in the same boat as me.

I was sleeved on 5/21 as well and I feel "hunger " sometimes too. But it seems more like cravings or head hunger to me than actual hunger...not sure if that makes sense but anyway I wish I could get over it.

I was also sleeved on Monday. I have been mostly having juice or yoghurt but really can't wait for the pureed part to start, everyone I speak to starts it at different stages

I was sleeved 4/26/12 and found I started getting hungry about 7-10 days post-op.

I went to a bariatric support group meeting recently and told them about my experience and was told this is "head hunger".

First, I think each person is different, and it's way too easy to pass judgment on what someone else is experiencing unless you are IN their body.

For me, my hunger is the same "valid" or "real" hunger I experienced pre-op. Stomach feels empty, body starts feeling weak or "empty" and needing food. This feeling has been easily satiated, but it IS real.

My concept of "head hunger" is .... it's lunchtime and I start thinking about eating... or I see something on TV and say "man I wish I could have that".... or I smell something good and I start salivating.

Anyway.... I say listen to your body and be as honest as you can. If you doubt what you're feeling, maybe journaling could help put things into perspective. Good luck!!

I definitely agree with your definitions of "real" vs. "Head" hunger, my head hunger has been awful, taking it one day at a time and can't wait until the liquid diet phase is over. Day 7 starts today. ..14 days left of liquids.....

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
