joyscinderella 30 Posted May 26, 2012 I'm really frustrated. I received a letter today from my insurance company saying that I will have to do 6 months of psychotherapy before they will further consider my request for VGS. They only required one session with the nutritionalist and a 6 month supervised diet isn't required. My BMI is 68! My doctor wrote, in his letter to the insurance company, that he didn't find it necessary to have any kind of psychotherapy. I'm really annoyed at the thought of having to wait 6 more months or longer. The waiting time to see a therapist around here us sometimes 2 or 3 months. My knees are not going to tolerate this weight much longer. I have no cartilage left and every step is agony. I've lost 50 pounds on my own since January but I need to lose 200 pounds before they can do any kind of knee replacement. I'm trying to stay positive but it's hard. I've seen here that most people only have to do an evaluation. Has anyone else been required to do 6 months of psychotherapy? Maybe there is a way out of it? valdostaGA 149 Posted May 26, 2012 Wow! That's insane! I hope there's a way out of this because I feel your pain! I was 410 with a bmi of 62 I'm going through the 6 month diet I have 2 more months. So far I'm down to 375. One would think we us having such a high bmi that they would automatically approve without all the long 6 month requirements!!! I pray that soon all insurance exclude this requirement! At least for people with a bmi of over 50! Praying with you!!
