After Soft Foods, What's Next?

Recommended Posts

How did your surgeon progress you? I was discharged on full liquids, 18 days later at my "2 week" check up, I was allowed to eat soft foods, skipping purees (yay!). Next week, I go back for my 1 month follow up and I'm anticipating being progressed to the next stage. What is that, normally? Obviously, it varies wildly between programs, but what's next? After soft foods, what is there left to restrict when you're on regular food? Or is it everything as tolerated? I'm just very nosy and like to be prepared.

I was put on Clear Liquids for 4 days post op, full liquids day 5-13. Then week 3 and 4 I can have purée, and weeks 5 and 6 soft foods before finally solid foods at week 7 ha.

I guess regular foods are the next step for me, but it sounds SO weird to be eating regular foods at just over a month out.

I was sleeved march 19th and still cannot eat all normal foods yet. I get in my Protein mostly with shakes not meat. I can eat steamed vegetables, crackers, rice cake, and some flat breads but no real bread or salad yet. But everyones different I hear. Just wondering when some got back to eating normal foods too.

I can tolerate more than i thought I could at 3 weeks. My Dr has progressed me quite quick. Not sure why some Dr's do it different than others. Comes down to what works for you I guess .??

You will probably go to regular foods, but there will be some restrictions, bread, rice, and Pasta will swell in your stomach so you won't be able to have those for awhile. You will probably not be able to have salad yet. Although I never had issues with it, alot of people do. Good luck!

I can tolerate a pretty decent amount right now. I've had nothing disagree with me so far. I can't wait to see what they say on Friday!

What have you been eating?

tuna, eggs, well cooked produce, berries, just had some fresh papaya, ground meats, etc. I had a really moist turkey burger (no bun) earlier today at a BBQ and it went down just fine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
