Hi, I haven't had my sleeve yet, I just did step 3 my psche eval, he told me I could never have alcohol drinks again, not that I drink alot but at celebrations I like wine etc, is it true that you never can have it again? just thought I ask, I'm going thru old posts to get all my answers but just thought I post, also no gum or straw uses?

thanks for help

I think they say that because of the fear of transfer of addictions. Alcohol is very high in calories, so you can drnk but just tread lightly.

Some people lose one addiction and pick up another, alcohol is an easy one to pick up, as well as gambling. Also certain alcohol, champagne, beer has carbonation and is not good for the sleeve and can cause bloating, gas and I've been told it could stretch the sleeve. Other drinks, with juices, margarita's etc. are high in sugar and not good for you either. Some people have stated that have tried things like wine with no ill effects but that's like several months out. I am not fond of wine myself and I love champagne and beer, but for a special occasion, I may try my hand at wine for big gatherings.

Well i do like to drink socially but I've been afraid to try it because I'm about 10 weeks out now. So I tried it on Friday. I had a glass of moscato (sweet dessert wine) and boy was that enough. I was basically drunk. Lol. Like do not operate any vehicles, the stumbles, the giggles, blabbering. Lol so yeah be very careful. I was at home with my bf so it was okay. But if you're out and driving make sure you find a sober driver.

It can also affect your healing early out. My program also says no drinking but my PA said one occasionally is fine.

I only drink socially as well and maybe 4-6 times a year usually I agree w the other poster 1 stiff drink and I'm tipsy. I drank about 6 wk out just a tiny bit. Then about 2.5 mo out at a wedding. I was fine spaced out the small 6-8 oz cups I had about 1.5-2 hrs apart. Then about 2 wks ago i had 1 Shot of tequilla at a friends and i was loopy in 5 min but it only lasted anout 30 min No problems!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
