What Do You Take For Pain Now?

Recommended Posts

I have serious back issues & need surgery that I won't be getting any time soon. Pre sleeve I popped Motrin like candy & took Percocet daily, but post sleeve Percocet KILLS my stomach &makes me sick. I can't tale vocodin & Tylenol is ridiculously useless. I haven't seen my pcp about it yet, but wondered what you guys are taking for pain??

I asked my Dr if I could take extra strenght excedrin if I had a headache, as I used to take that pre-op & he said that was fine.

It has acetominophen, aspirin & Caffeine. Might be worth a try?

I take Ibuprofen. Are we not supposed to?

This past weekend I tried to take an oxycodone and nearly passed out! My head was spinning, stabbing pains in my stomach, and I actually started to black out. I had made sure to eat first and took it right after food. I thought since our intestines are intact that I would absorb it the same way as pre-op. NOT!

It was STRESSED a lot by my nutritionist and Dr to NOT use Ibuprofen. Acetaminophen only for me.

Cherrybomb......NOT supposedbto take ibuprofen ever again post-op. It can cause major ulcers for us!!!! That said, what you explained ypur Percocet experience as is exactly like mine! And I used to take A LOT, so much so that pain mngmt was the #1 concern of my surgeon post-op since I has such a tolerance for it built up. I didn't have any issues immediately following surgery, but now if I take it my stomach KILLS for hours & I sweat & have thrown up. The stomach pain is bananas!!! So now idk what to take for real pain :(

Hey. My doc said that I was only restricted from ibuprofren for the first 30 days. He said I'm at same risk for ulcers as before. Tylenol is useless and I have joint issues that need the NSAIDs. :(

My doctor gave me some liquid Vicodin. Well, I don't KNOW if its actually Vicodin but its hydrocodone-acetaminophen. Same thing though right? I only take it if pain is unbearable, so I've only used it day 1 post op

I used to take excedrin for my headaches and pain pre surgery, but doctor's orders were to stop taking it after, and to use tylenol as well

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
