Hi Everyone,

I've been lurking around the forum for about two months now and finally decided today to create a profile and ask some questions I've been wanting answers to.

Here is my (condensed story), I'm a 28 year old single mother and I have been going back and forth with my decision to be sleeved. I was totally against it at first but then decided to give it some thought and go to a consultation to see how I felt about it afterwards. My surgeon is Dr. Wade Barker and so far I am pleased with his office. I'm a little more than half way through my six month waiting period. I lost 115lbs w/out surgery or anything else a few years ago and kept if off for about a year before gaining it back. I got down to 183 and now I've shot back up to 337.

I am still deciding on the sleeve and wanted to know if there is anyone who has had the sleeve and wish they would have lost the weight without it?

Another major concern is not looking healthy/looking sickly. I've seen several people who have had WLS and don't look good. I want to still have curves and be voluptuous, so is it possible to stop losing when you feel like you are at a good weight?

Once I get started losing weight it gets pretty easy for me but now my major concern is the maintenance phase. Does anyone else go back and forth with their decision? Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

Blessings,

Jen

You should check out profiles for Stronger_Diva and for Sleeve of Steel. Both of them look really good and are still healthy looking gals. Diva is in a zero and Sleeve of Steel has specifically chosen to be a little thicker for her own reason. You do NOT have to get to stick thin after being sleeved. I doubt I'll ever get to that point myself. I'm 5'8, so anything below 180 or so is going to look pretty bad on me. My goal weight is 190.

I think we all go through the stage of wishing we could have done this without surgery..and many of us have lost significant amounts of weight without WLS. The problem is that it's very hard to keep that weight off without WLS. This isn't a miracle. It's a tool to HELP us do what we need to do to get healthy. Lots of sleevers manage to get to goal without exercise, but those who are most successful in my book are the ones who add exercise to their daily routines.

Good luck, whatever decision you make! :)

You will have curves and if you exercise, you will have more definition in wanted areas. When you get down to where you like your bod, then you start your maintenance phase. This surgery has very few complications and everyone I've talked too are read their feedback would have the surgery again in a a heart beat. But it is not easy, it requires constant work and patience. Good luck with your decision. ;)
