Anyone Regret Being Sleeved?

Recommended Posts

I'm just wondering. I was sleeved on May 14th and I'm an emotional wreck but I expected this in the beginning. What about you that have some sleeved time under your belt. Do you have regrets?

I was sleeved May 15th. E

Just about every single time I take broth or juice I have a loud gurgling in my stomach and explosive diarrhaea. (tmi, i know sorry). I am thinking if this is how life is going to be for me then maybe I shouldn't have done this...

I hope in time this unpleasant side effect will go away.

I can honestly say I dont regret. I had extreme pain the first day, but that subsided. Yes it does suck because I am still on a restrictied diet but its only temporary. I made the decesion to have this sugery to improve my health and if it means I am going to have some battles along the way, so be it!!!

I agree with Delta. I have some issues, trials, problems, etc., but my goal is the same. To lose weight, be healthier, hopefully improve my life in more ways than one, and feel good about how I look and feel. The sleeve is my answer, and at 4 wks postop, I don't regret it at all. The only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.

Orange juice? I am shocked u can have that. I was told its not good for us to have it during the first few weeks due to the sugar levels. High levels of sugar will give us dirahea, but of course I had to test it one time. I sipped on some juice and to the bathroom I ran! lol So now I am staying within compliance! No carbonated, high sugar, liquids!

I was sleeved Jan. 2011. Almost 1 1/2 ago. Yes, I do have moments of regret. Mainly because eating is not enjoyable anymore. I eat because I have to. I don't enjoy food anymore.

I'm almost 9 months out and I have no regrets. IMO, the sleeve saved my life. I'm happier, healthier and fitter than EVER before. This is the best thing I've ever done for myself.

Thanks to my sleeve, I LOVE MY SKINNINESS! I would do it in a heart beat! Orange juice is acidic and causes stomach problems, so I don't drink it. If so, just a sip. ;)

First 1-1/2 - 2 weeks after surgery, my program wants us to be drinking Isopure and Water, we don't even move to full liquids (like Protein Shakes, cream of wheat until after 10 days). I was told it will be approximately 5-6 weeks before you are on solids. I think any type of juice, except something like Gatorade if you are having a problem with dehydration, which isn't good for you either. Try sticking with higher Protein Drinks like an isopure for a while until your stomach can handle liquids.

No regrets so far. 4 weeks this coming Monday and I have only lost 6 pounds but am patiently (sort of:) waiting it out. I had (and still do ) a lot of gurgling and growling sounds in my stomach and it still is slightly uncomfortable to drink Water and sometimes to eat. The first week I had a meltdown when something I tolerated the day before was causing me to feel awful. I did regret it for a few hours that day. But your hormones are also all over the place after surgery so I think it is normal to feel negative. Hang in there. It's done now and 9 out of 10 people seem to have no regrets at all. I bet you will feel that way too. Maybe sooner than you think! :) Good luck! :)

Yep, I regretted it at the beginning when I was vomiting, rehosptialized, etc. However, 4 months post op, hell no I dont regret anything and would do it again. It is an adjustment and I still struggle with Protein, Hair loss, etc. but I would do it again. The best thing I did prior to surgery was start taking depression medication and had it increased after the surgery. It has helped immensely and I continue to take it to be successful in my weight loss. My advice educate yourself....

I am fairly newly sleeved - just three weeks, but I have had no regrets. But then, I've had no issues either. A little bit of Constipation, but Colace fixes that. From immediately after surgery I was able to drink fluids without discomfort and have been able to get in 64 ounces since day 3. After 7 days I started taking a few chewable Vitamins and have had no issues there either (although I don't particulary enjoy their taste). I have had no food intolerances (except for the very small amount of Peanut Butter that I mixed in to my chocolate shake - learned off that one). I'm also using a cookbook to try different foods allowed. Even though I can have very little food (usually about a 1/3 cup now), I like the flavor of the food and the different textures. I also love to cook, and I promised myself that I would not let my surgery change that. I can still have the food I love, just in much smaller amounts. Last night I made a baked cod with a lime and coconut milk sauce (1 T). I also steamed up some broccoli and cheese. I only had two pieces of the broccoli and about an ounce of the cod, but it was delicious and I was completely satisfied.

I would imagine however, that if I had a lot of problems with food intolerances, etc. after surgery, I might have moments of regret. I do know that my joints already feel better because they are not having to support the 30 pounds I've lost so far, and having my pants literally fall off me today when I was getting dressed put a gigantic smile on my face. I can't wait to be able to have some fashionable clothes in my closet again!

Hang in there, it will get better. Everyone says that, and it really is true. Stay positive!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
