joeyangel99 2 Posted May 24, 2012 I had surgery in November 2010, and have been taking (1) generic lansoprazole daily since then. I had no complaints, felt great. Recently I found out that I have become allergic to it. I get this allergy through out my body. It is probably caused by the prolonged use of the PPI. I try not taking it but I cannot live with the acid reflux. After a couple of days of taking the acid reflux medicine I break out. I've tried taking tums, mylanta, etc. but they don't work well. I've also tried omeprazole, but again I get the allergy. I need to see my doctor obviously, but I was wondering if anyone had this issue...
Wheetsin 714 Posted May 24, 2012 I was allergic to something started at the hospital (which was everything but the Omeprazole pill), but I have no idea what. Since most of it was not optional, I was given Predinose and Sucralfate (coats the stomach, to help offset the problems Prednisone can cause) to take for a few weeks. Currently I'm only on the Omeprazole and not having any problems. Neutralizers like Tums & Mylanta seem to be generally ineffective with us. Have you tried Pepcid? (Famotidine) It's not a PPI, but is an H2 blocker -- it reduces acid production andis a histamine blocker. When I went to the ER for treatment of the allergy noted above, a Pepcid bolus was the first thing they gave me. The Dr. advised always having it on hand, just in case. joeyangel99 2 Posted May 24, 2012 Hi Wheetsin, thanks for the quick reply. How long have you been on the omeprazole? I have read about H2 blockers vs PPI's. I have not tried it, but that is my next intent. I hope it solves this problem. I hate the fact that I am allergic to lansoprozole, I wish I could stop taking it everything completely, but I can't live with acid reflux. I hope eventually it goes away forever!
