Pica is technically when you crave things that are NOT food, have NO nutritional value. Sounds like just odd cravings to me. You most likely want the creaminess and ease (going down) of those foods, plus some of the sour of the lime in the guacamole. I found my taste buds went really wonky for a week or so, then evened out again.

No worries, that's actually not pica at all. Those are nutritious things to eat. With pica you'd be craving/eating things like dryer sheets and dirt.

I craved black Beans with wing sauce as soon as I hit mushies. I'd never eat those together normally, but they just sounded good. And wish relatively few options, we have to get a bit creative. Maybe our brans are in mushy overdrive.

Yeah, as mentioned above pica is really craving stuff like dirt.

Reminds me of an incident my wife talks about, seems one April 1st (April Fools Day) someone made cupcakes out of potting soil, they looked scrumptiously like moist dark chocolate, they even put a bit of icing on them. Well most took a bite and spat them out and immediately knew the prank - one fat dude (fortunately NOT me!) went back for SECONDS! He said they tasted "a bit funny" but he couldn't resist. Man, he really had food issues.

Back OT: craving stuff isn't really an issue, we all have that, being UNABLE to resist the craving is the REAL issue. As long as you can control yourself don't fret about it. If you really can't resist go back to the doc first and maybe a psychologist if it still persists.

Ok now - we wouldn't be here if we didn't have some type of food issue or another, but holy balls - that's just wrong! I love it. Did anyone ever tell him? :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
