I'm allergic to dairy Protein and can't have anything with dairy or whey. It is not the same as being lactose-intollerant. Does anyone else have this allergy and have they found good non-dairy protein powders? I've found a little at the Vitamin Shoppe near me, just wondering if anyone has found anything really good I should try. Thanks!

May I ask how you were diagnosed as having a dairy allergy? I ask because about 3 years ago I was having horrible headaches and other symptoms, so I had a food allergy test done. It was done properly through a blood test. It came up with me being allergic to all cow and goat dairy, and chicken eggs. So I cut those things out of my diet for about 6 months and slowly reintroduced them later. Since then, the symptoms are gone and I can have those things in moderation.

I know there are good non-dairy Protein supplements out there, hopefully someone who's tried them will reply!

I was diagnosed the same way, through a blood test. I also cut dairy completely for a year, and now I can have a little in moderation, but to drink several whey Protein Shakes a day would make me very sick. I don't know what I'd do if I could have eggs as well because I'm using an egg Protein Powder now

There are some Protein Shots that are not dairy. Carnivor from GNC are beef Protein isolates. I honestly don't know how good or healthy they are, but it might be a substitute for you??

I've been doing a lot of research into Protein and noticed there are soy and vegan Protein powders out there. I haven't tried them as I have no problem with dairy at the moment. I found them in high end grocery and health food stores (Whole Foods, Vitamin Shoppe, etc.) You might want to try one of these. I do know that Vitamin Shoppe and GNC will let you return anything you don't like. Plus Vitamin Shoppe has a free club card that gives you money back based on how much you spend.

Lots of luck!

Just as an FYI, I have not had any bad reaction to the whey Protein isolate and I drink two shakes per day since surgery. When I had my test done, the score was "off the chart" so to speak -- it wasn't like a light sensitivity. My two sisters are doctors (naturopaths) and do a lot with allergies. Sometimes they can show up on tests when your body is not creating the proper enzymes to break them down (i.e. periods of illness, stress, after pregnancy) -- but once you take that break, it is possible for the body to no longer be allergic.

Still, couldn't hurt to find forms of soy, beef, hemp, and other Proteins. I see them on the shelves at Whole Foods and other natural stores. I'm sure you could find them cheaper on Amazon. Some don't pack the same Protein punch as whey, so you may have to drink more?

Thanks for the info on the whey isolate. I might try it a little and see how I feel. I know I can tolerate some dairy, but too much makes me sick, so I've been trying to find good substitutes to whey.

I've got the same thing. The only Protein I can drink is Unjury. And the only Meal Replacement I can drink is Chike (it's got 23 g of protein). And for another minus- I'm allergic to soy, so I gotta be extremely careful. Sometimes yogurt will help with the allergy as well. But you can't have that pre op.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
