Hi,

Just wanted to introduce myself, I was sleeved on Monday. That first day, right after surgery was tough. Had to keep getting up and walking every couple hours and it was really really hard at first. Only had to spend one night in the hospital though and am home now. That first night at home I had a lot of pain in my arms but that has subsided and I still have some pain in the lower left part of my belly which I understand is the location of the largest incision.

When I started this journey, I weighed 472, after the first two weeks of the pre-op diet I weighed in at 455. I say first two weeks because I ended up having to be on the pre-op for an extra week because of my EKG results - turned out the tech at the hospital switched the leads on the ekg and made it look like I had a huge heart problem. So my original surgery date got delayed, I got another ekg which was fine and a heart sonogram just to be sure and that was fine too so I was able to get rescheduled the following week. The day of my surgery I weighed in at 449.

The reason I made the decision to go with the surgery was primarily due to the lymph edema in my right leg. I've been hospitalized twice in the past year for severe infections and my doctors keep telling me that the only way to clear up the lymph edema completely is to lose weight. I had tried lost of other diets before but just couldn't control my appetite. I have a good feeling that this is going to work and I'm looking forward to loosing a lot more weight in the coming months.

Anyway, have been reading a lot on this sight and finally decided to join.

Thanks,

Cliff

Hi Cliff. Good luck on your journey. Like you, I decided after my PCP prescribed Glipizide for my Type-ll Diabetes, enough already. I was taking only Metformin. Besides those medications, I'm taking blood pressure pills, cholesterol pills, etc. I've had a couple of friends pass away due to diabetes, and they were relatively young.

So, weight loss surgery came to mind. My PCP (Primary Care Physician) said it might be a good tool for me and prepared an excellent referral letter. She said that she has seen numerous cases of diabetes either being cured or nearly eliminated in patients who have undergone WLS (Weight Loss Surgery). I think that pretty much sold me. Dr. McMahon (surgeon) even attested to the fact that weight loss surgery helps control diabetes.

I'm scheduled for an endoscopy on June 7 & a few more blood tests (ABG?) then I guess it's just a matter of waiting for Medicare to approve everything. The doctor didn't see any problems with approval.

Please keep us up-to-date on your progress.

Welcome Cliff. This is a great site to ask questions, everyone here is very helpful. Lots of times (at least for me) I don't even have to ask the question, as things have happened to me it seems I can almost always find that the same things have happened to others and it really helps to have people you can talk to that have gone thru/are going thru the same thing you are. Congratulations on your decision to get healthier.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
