I ate ground beef only or very very tender roast. You'll find that most steak is just too hard to chew to mush.

Please follow your doctors' orders. You really don't want to lose your band or have complications because you couldn't wait for red meat.< /span>

I was allowed ground beef at the transitional state from mushies to solids. But no steak or roasts for 6 months. It isn't that hard to wait for it and it isn't worth any problems you may have.

I love red meat. My parents used to own a very nice steak house, so I had steak whenever I wanted and will never give it up. I have never heard of having to wait six months. I was back eating steak at 1 month after surgery and have not had any problems with it. I would just suggest not eating the cheaper cuts as they are pretty tough and you usually can't chew them up small enough. I have no problem with filet mignon though.

Of course, the most important thing, as always is, just because this is what I did and I did so with the blessing of my doctor, I did follow his advice and did what he said to do, when he said I could. I would suggest that you follow your doctors orders, as he is in charge of your health, knows your specific medical situation and will advise you to do what is best for you.

Stepping off my soapbox now. :faint:

I too love red meat! My doc said to wait four weeks before I tried it. I agree about buying better cuts of meat, the tenderer (is that a word?) the better. I also like mine medium rare so it's nice and juicy.

The best advice I have though is to follow your doctors orders, he/she has your best interests in mind.

Good luck to you!

I had meatloaf at 3 weeks out, I was allowed ground beef in the soft food stage. I still can't do tough steak but can eat filet and ribeye with no problem. I can also eat roast, prime rib with ease. It should be simple to call and ask the nurse or dietion if the surgeon means no red meat or no steak. I also made chili in the puree stage and put it in the blender, added some sour cream and had a field day eating my chili puree. No red meat for 6 months sounds a bit off, but every doctor is different. ~Mandy

I think I first had red meat about 6 weeks out, I've only eaten a steak once or twice since surgery though, steak is not something I ever ate a lot of. I'm pretty sure I couldnt eat a steak now, well not one I had cooked anyway!

I can handle roasts - we love lamb in our household, and burgers, mince etc.

My nutritionist said to wait 6 months for red meat... Then I asked my surgeon's office, and they said as soon as I was on solids, I could eat red meat (just take it slow, listen to your body, realize what's chewable, etc). The reason my nutritionist said 6 months is because they have virtually the same guidelines for bandster as for RNY patients. Red meat (and salad, and nuts, etc) are hard to digest, so if you had a bypass, that would make it difficult. But I had the go-ahead for red meat as soon as I was on solids (4 weeks)

I'm so jealous. I have only had steak once since being banded almost 2 years ago. It just doesn't work for me. Maybe because I can barely eat it medium well - no red, bloody steak for me. It's one of the few things I miss.

I'm not a fan of red meat but was given the OK to eat it at 6 weeks post-op. I went to dinner at a friend's house and filet mignon was on the menu. I ate it at about 2.5 months post-op and had no difficulty. chicken is the food I have the toughest time with.

MY Dr. didn't give me any rule on when to start Red meats, but I'm 2 yrs out and still don't eat it that much. Most of it's too chewy fatty what not.

I eat meatballs, Deer meat, stew beef, I can eat a few bits rib eye if i must have one lol but mostly I eat sloppy Joe type red meat.

and ALOT of chicken

hehe

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
