I'm a little apprehensive about saying this here but I'm feeling like a failure. I'm stuck at the same weight for some time now and I haven't lost nearly as much as most that are out as long as I am..almost 5 months. I'm finding that some of my old habits are coming back and my family keeps bringing bad food in the house. I keep saying how hard it is for me to have it around and throw some of it out so they might get the hint but it's just not working. I'm excercising like I should but that's about it. I'm eating all wrong. I'm really struggling and want to do better but finding it more difficult everyday. I keep swinging these 4 pounds around but can't seem to drop past 241. I went to such drastic measures to make a change and now I feel so weak and like I'm failing. Does anyone else feel this way? I've read so many positive posts here and they are great but it would be helpful to find someone who could relate. So many here seem to be doing so well, it seems so easy for them (not that it is,,I know they are working hard,,,I just mean they are doing so well and I'm not) I feel very depressed and disappointed in myself.

Peacequeen, I may be one of the ones that you are referring to as making it seem easy, but it's not. If you noticed, my weight loss all but stalled. From January until the beginning of May, I barely lost 10 pounds. I kept up on eating right, Water, and exercise, but the weight just wasn't moving much. The only explanation I have for it is that I weighed in that same bracket (250-270) for over 10 years on my way up, so it took a while for my body to decide that it could let go of some of that weight.

I also doubled my cardio and weight lifting during May and BAM, I dropped to 252. That was my 100 pound mark, but I think that the extreme (for me) exercise is what finally kicked my body into gear again.

Please don't beat yourself up or feel like a failure. You're one of my inspirations around here!! :)

Peacequeen. Do not give up. Tomorrow is a new day. I am sure you know what your suppose to do, so pick yourself up you can do this. Start at the beginning with your Proteins and Water. Stay focused one meal at a time. We are In this together. It's really not easy and it is a decision every day. Hang in there.

PQ, you have had setbacks that many of us haven't so yes, it may be a little bit tougher but all of struggle which is why we all had this surgery. YOU ARE NOT FAILURE! You have KEPT over 50 lbs. off. I don't think anyone would call that a failure. Keep up with your good foods and as I have been reminded a few times, this is a journey. I was comparing my weightloss with others and that just won't work. Everyone is on the same journey but with very different paths. You just have to get back on yours.

We all have bad days and make bad decisions, that's okay, forgive yourself and move on. Make one goal for yourself the next week or so, for example get in liquids or eat more Protein, whatever you need. When that's under control add another goal, after you meet the second goal add another and so on. Start small and be proud of yourself one step at a time. Also sit your family down and talk to them. I confronted my sister last weekend, I think she was surprised to hear she wasn't supporting me like I need. Tell them what you need, be firm. Good luck.

5mo out and 55 lbs lost? That's over 10 lbs per month and 2.5lbs per week. That's a lot of weight. Sounds like your doing good to me.

I don't want anyone thinking that I think no one else has struggles. I know that you do. I'm just feeling bad for myself,,a pity party I guess. I'm frustrated because I've been stuck around the same weight for a while now, I'm getting afraid that the weight I lost is all I'm going to get from such drastic measures,,I still have over 100 pounds to lose. Thanks for your support, it really makes me feel better.

How long is "some time"? You could be stalled or plateaued. There's really no research supporting this, but it also sure seems like we have metabolic resistance points or something. Weights our bodies just seem to like to stay at. Sometimes they correspond to weights we spent longer periods of time at as we gained, but sometimes they're just sort of arbitrary. When I had my lap-band, I spent about 18 months at 250. My body just seemed to like that weight (damn body). Really no matter what I did, I stuck within 4 or 5 lbs of it.

My family situation is a bit different. DH has never shopped for groceries (ok, he's run and gotten me some eggs when I've forgotten them... but he has never madea solo trip with the intention of purchasing anything more than something I asked him to purchase), and DD is a young'en so I kind of "control" all of the groceries at the house. And since you've already talk ed to them about it, and they're ignoring your wishes, how do you escalate that without drama? Hmm. Can you give them a separate area for their foods?

I'm going through a sort of stall now. It happens. Mine is happening pretty soon right after surgery, so I've been stalled most of the time I've been sleeved (like 75% - 80%). That's the frustration for me. It's like -- can I please at least get to 1 smaller size before you stall out on me? When I had my lapband I would stall for a handful of weeks, and then quickly lose tons of weight in between. Here, I'm kind of just stalling, perpetually it seems.

it's not a pity party, sometimes you just have to get it off your chest. It's just human nature. I'm not a really "Needy" person, I don't generally ask for help and tend to deal with most things internally. "Even I"posted about my stall frustrations yesterday. Sometimes you just need to know you're not crazy, or have another set of eyes look over your menus, or see that you're not the only one (even if you already know you're not).

PQ. Weren't u I'm the hospital with a leak where they were giving u iv fcaloties? That was a long time and if I'm correct. Then that period of time does not count. If I have the wrong info. U are still doing a great job. I am also frustrated at times and was reminded by forenichick about being patient and letting my body drops weight. I do agree that u need to reset the boundaries with ur family. I tell my family absolutely no junk food but they still bring it. I found ice cream on my freeWr so I avid that freezer. I do need to throw it out. So frustrating. Hang in there and focus on Proteins. U can do this! ;)

I may be totally wrong here but I often wonder when people say they are in a stall whether they are eating too many carbs. I am 11 weeks out and have never had a stall - BUT - my surgeon's diet plan does not allow me to have carbs until I am 7 months out. I can have 2 oz fruit or veg at my meals but that's it. And, to be honest, I cannot even tolerate that. I know that other surgeon's diets allow carbs right away or much sooner than 7 months out. Until I had this surgery I honestly did not realize how horrible carbs are for us - mostly because they bring on cravings for more carbs.

Like others have said you are doing great - especially considering that you had a leak early on. It's very good that you posted here for support because here is definitely where you will get it.

Hang in there and take it one day at a time. I know it's always easier to say but we are all here for you.

Not all carbs are created equal - complex carbs vs. simple carbs. It's an important point to understand. Simple carbs are the "triggers" and quick injections that you want to avoid. They are not very good for us (trying to lose weight) but they have their purpose. Complex carbs arenecessary for a healthy diet. (Carbs aren't 100% necessary, you can live without them, but you wouldn't enjoy it very much) :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
