Hello everyone, I am new to the group and have a couple of questions, hoping you can help. I had my procedure in 04, but didn't have a reduction until late 05. I started losing my hair shortly after the operation. Can you relate?:nervous

Hi Donalee-Welcome!! What is a reduction? As far as losing hair...there are several posts concerning this topic that you may find helpful. Are you eating enough Protein? I've heard that not having enough protein can cause this...just an idea. Good luck!

Reduction? Are you referring to weight loss? Sorry, I am a bit confused.

As far as the hair loss, like LapBandit said, I have heard this happens when you are not getting enough Protein. You may want to up your Protein intake.

I'm thinking she must mean restriction when she says reduction.

My guess would be that a "reduction" is a fill.....to reduce the size of the stoma??? That would facilitate the hair loss, me thinks.

Hi, no Hair loss is strictly from lack of Protein. Your body has enough stores of Protein for about 3 months....when you aren't getting enough to replenish it, your body uses it for energy and hence the hairloss. (this is why hairloss starts at about 3 months out)...you can't prevent the hair loss totally but you can slow it down....getting as much protein as you can. Darker oiler fish is an excellent source of protein, salmon, blue fish, albacore tuna, sardines. Clams are good too because they also have Zinc which is good for healing!! Refried Beans, eggs, tofu...some other good ideas. cheese is good but frankly too much fat, and it can constipate you so I don't even think I'll be doing the cheese thing...lol.

Reduction is when they inject solution to close up the band, making it harder to eat as much. donalee:)

Reduction is what my doctor calls, injecting solution into the band to tighten it. donalee

Welcome to LBT Donalee!

I think you mean restriction, right? That's what this group calls it anyway.

My hair started falling about about 5 months after surgery. Its not falling out as much now, and I hear from others that it will grow back.

So how has your weightloss journey been since you got some restriction? Were you banded in the US?

Soy Protein is a form of vegetable Protein, which is not easily digested and can cause gas and still leave you lacking in protein.

I would suggest you stick with natural whey protein for optimal absorbption.

That is what it means.... a fill. My doctor calls it a reduction. I have had 4 so far. I that what causes the hair to fall out or is it lack of Protein?

Hello Photonut...

A reduction... a fill ... or restriction. My doctor calls it a reduction.

I have had 4 so far, in Dallas, TX. Dr. Provost.

How long has it been thin (hair I mean)? Donalee

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
