Hey... I'm back in NYC for college, and was wondering if there was a support group I could join in the city... I was banded in Maryland on July 5th...

I'd even love to meet people who've been banded in NYC for coffee or something sometime!

PM me if you would like to meet!

I was banded on August 9th by Dr Vinces in Port Jervis NY. As I look through this site I notice the majority of people are from out west. I wanted to see if their were any more locals.
Hi Pebbles.

I have lived in Florida for the past 3 years, But I was born in Brooklyn and except for college in Pennsylvania, living in Queens for almost a year and living in Medford, Long Island for almost a year, I lived my first 58 years in Brooklyn. I had my Lap-Band surgery in Staten Island by a doctor who has a Staten Island/Brooklyn practice.

FYI, the NYU support group that meets on the third Wednesday of every month (Skirball conference room -- usually on the 3rd floor but this month on the second floor) at the main NYU hospital on 31st and 1st Ave. at 6 p.m. is having a clothing exchange in addition to the regular support group this month. Come on over if you're looking for a bandster group and some new clothes to boot. There's no charge (just bring some clothes that are now too big) and you don't have to be an NYU patient to participate.

I was banded on Aug 30 and am on first week of the shakes. I live in Cornwall. I, too, have noticed that other Doctors are not as strict with the food (liquid) plan. But the bright spot is, that this will soon be over.

JULIENYC----Great info, thanks for passing it along.Anyone planning to go?

Hey Pebbles, I did a huge venting post on the ABC board. I am very frustrated at my total lack of restriction. I am just holding on till I get my first fill on 10/2. But I feel at this point I am on nothing more than another failing diet program. Its getting very hard to stay possitive. But I don't want to bring down a whole other message board!

Tell me about how you are doing? Are you still in "gym mode"? and how's that super stricked diet going for you? I am still ammazed that you where even able to do it!

Be well all of the N.Y. bansters!...chrissie

Chrissie,

I read your ABC post and I really hope you start feeling better about the whole process. Like I said just take advantage right now to heal and get used to the band being in you. Soon you will have more restriction sometimes I wish my restriction was more gradual But IT WILL work for you I know you can get through it just have some faith in yourself and you'll do great. I'm still going to the gym about an hour or so a day and I'm gonna go 4-5 times a week. I love how I feel after working out. I've had a couple rough times with the food thing my first was Saturday I went shopping about half hour from my house and I was gone for about 4 hours and by the end of the day I was sooo hungry but couldnt "just grab something" quick and I was by myself so I didn't want to go in a restaurant or diner alone to sit and have a healthy meal so I ended up coming home sooner than I wanted so I can cook something. Then tonight was my nieces 9th birthday and we always go out to dinner as a family and I told everyone I really didn't want to go, I've only eatten out twice and was at a diner where I know the people so it was easy to get something made specifically how I can have it...plain, not fried foods or breaded. My niece got upset and wanted me to go so of course I went and we went to a nice restaurant and at first I was having a hard time ordering because all the fish was breaded and fried or stuffed and the chicken the same, too much stuff added that I couldn't have but finally my Dad asked the manager if they could make me plain grilled chicken with soft green Beans So I felt better until my whole family including the kids got up to get salad and I sat by myself, salad is one of the things I miss the most so my Mom tried to find something on the salad bar I could have and their wasnt anything no soft fruit nothing. So I decided to go outside while everyone ate their salad but then once our food came I was fine I just felt like I was the picky one of the bunch but really it was that I couldnt have that stuff, It turned out ok but decided it will be awhile before I go to a restaurant again. It's much easier to cook for myself and not bother others because of my strict diet. OK I know that was long, sorry needed to tell someone how I felt after all that LOL well it goes to show I think everyone has their moments that are tough. GOOD LUCK to everyone and keep up the good work and Chrissie I'll keep you in my thoughts. I go to the doc tomorrow to see how much I lost hope its something Wish me luck!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
