Hair Loss Before Surgery?

Recommended Posts

Anyone have advice on this topic? I already have thinning hair due to PCOS. I am very self conscience about it, It is s little bit noticble in the front bangs area. (especially when wet). I am worried I dont have much left to lose if the surgery makes it worse? Any advice or stories to share about this?

I have PCOS as well..and the same problem! I've been so worried that I'm gonna look nearly bald on top..my hair is thick towards the bottom, but the top has been thinning for a while. I'm so worried about this! I wish I knew a way to fix this.

My surgeon (same as SleeveMe81's) suggested fish oil, zinc, and Biotin daily. I didn't start to lose my hair until after surgery, but it has definitely slowed it down. If you started taking these before surgery, it might help with Hair loss after surgery.

My hair started falling out about three month after surgery I had bald spots all over :/ the Dr told me I needed to keep better track of my protien intake ...not having the required amount of protien everyday causes hairloss I also started taking Biotin and washing my hair with Dr miracle grow Shampoo and conditioner ..my hair is still falling out but no where near as much as before and its starting to grow back too

I have thinning hair pre-surgery too. I use Nanogen or Xfusion to cover the thin spots. They work great! I recommend checking them out if you are self-conscious about your scalp showing etc. B)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
