Hydration Concerns For Intense Activity

Recommended Posts

Hey there. Six days post op and starting to feel normal. I thought of something today and figured others would have had to deal with this in the past so I would put it out there.

Since my new stomach is only 6-8ou in size. How can I ensure hydration for future activities which require maximum sweating?

Is it a matter of very frequent Water breaks, or will i someday be able to consume more than 2 ou of Water within 15 min?

Thanks for any feedback.

Bob

Your Water intake will increase. You're in super careful mode. As soon as your swelling goes down, Water will clear your stomach very quickly.

I'm 8 weeks out and can now drink/swallow about 3 - 5 small mouthfuls in a row, as long as I wait a bit before doing it again.

I talk about it a bit on my blog. As Wheetsin points out, it does get easier, but for intense activity, you do have to make some adjustments to the frequency of drinking. Where before you could go on a half an hour run without bringing hydration, now you need to bring it. You will learn the new signals your body gives you.

It eases up over time. I am 3 months out and can take 3 large draws on a straw in a row..gulp, gulp, gulp. Then I wait a few seconds and do it again. It is funny. The liquids go in just fine, but I can still only eat around 1 ounce of solid food. So, it must clear pretty quickly.

The first few weeks it is tiny sips all day long. Now it is a little bigger sips all day long I am about a month out from my surgery and I need to drink more. I take a bottle of Water with me everywhere. I put one in my pocket when I walk around the block, go to the store, go over to friends house. even when I went to the movies to see the Avengers I took a bottle of my protien drink. THey want 4.25 for a bottle of Water how crazy is that.

So you will do fine just keep your fluids up.

Water doesn't need to be ground up by the stomach in the same way that solid foods do. It can partially trickle through, and what can't can be pushed through as soon as the stomach contracts (happens for most people about 3x a minute). That's why you might "feel" the Water for a few moments, but generally not very long.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
