peacequeen 434 Posted May 22, 2012 I'm not a big drinker but I've had a glass of red wine tonight and all my incisions, including where I had plasmapheresis, are purple. Has this ever happened to anyone before,,this is new to me.
Lissa 2,631 Posted May 22, 2012 I have no clue what plasmapheresis is, but it sounds terrifying! I'm not sure why your incisions would be purple. Are you perhaps allergic to something in the wine? Of course, it could be totally unrelated to the wine. You could have been really hot today and the incisions are dark because your body temperature is up. I'd call the doctor, but only because of your history with the leak. I hope it's nothing. Good luck!!
peacequeen 434 Posted May 22, 2012 Lisa,I had plasmapheresis because I have an autoimmune disease called Myasthenia Gravis. It's where they replace my plasma with synthetic plasma so it cleans all the bad antibodies out. I had this done last July, the scars are purplish red all around as well as my gallbladder, vsg incisions and csection/hysterectomy incision..it's weird and scary. Lissa 2,631 Posted May 22, 2012 I'm sorry to hear that, PeaceQueen! I know what MG is since an extended family member has it. I didn't know that there was a treatment for it besides treating the individual symptoms, though. Have you called a doctor yet? It sounds (to me) like it's more likely to be related to the synthetic blood treatment than to your sleeve. Perhaps the wine interacted with the plasma and caused a color change that is showing up in those scarred areas more than anywhere else? I still hope it's nothing serious!
