I had my surgery october 3 2011. before surgery i was on 3 different anti depressents, and after surgery i stopped taking them. I now recently am feeling down, extremely tired all the time, irritated and angry at everyone, not feeling like being around friends/family. So i went to my primary physician and she started me back up on a couple when i took them they hurt my stomach so bad it was almost like a painful feeling, i took them for 3 days and now i am stopping for a day because i cant stand the feeling of being sick like this. Has anyone had a hard time with pills, do you think they are to strong for my stomach. What should I do, i want to be happy and enjoy my weight loss!

I'm pre-op so I can't help you there. But I think you should talk w/your doc. Are they time-release? If not, maybe you can crush them up and dissolve them in some flavored water to get them down. Just a thought. Run it by your doc. Good luck!

May want to ask Dr. about going back on previcid or some kind of stomach acid reducer if you are not on one. Could just be harsh for your stomach. Regarding the bad feeling have you had lab work done recently like Vit.B's n D etc.. Sometimes small things can make a big change in how you feel. Good Luck!

Don't crush...most antidepressants will tell you not to crush or chew. I would call your bariatric MD and ask him/her. They would know what meds are ok and which one's are not.

My surgeon told me to crush my anti-depressant. Is there a reason NOT to crush?

I will have to take mine crushed until I can swallow a pill.

Artsy, I'm not sure. That's why I suggested a call to the doc to find out. I know some pills shouldn't be but those are mostly the time-released ones. But others probably just b/c it would hit the system too fast, maybe? I think if a pill can be cut to reduce a dosage, it should be able to be crushed. Again, have no idea.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
