I am done mooing! 12 Posted May 22, 2012 I see that many patients travel to other countries to have their procedures done. Why is that? I would feel very afraid about travling to a strange country to have surgery myself. I would be afraid of getting a fraud or wierdo lol.
MyGastricSleeveLife 180 Posted May 22, 2012 Many patients that go to Mexico go because their insurance won't cover it and most of the surgeries in Mexico are around $5000 instead of upwards of $10,000 - $15,000+ here in the states. There are some well-qualified doctors there, so it is a good choice for some people. I am a self-pay patient, but I decided that I felt more comfortable with a local doctor even though I had to pay more simply because I felt better about having a local doctor for followup care and in case of any complications. However, some people are comfortable with going to Mexico to save money.
mkardh 52 Posted May 22, 2012 I am actually sitting in a hotel in Mexico recovering from my sleeve surgery. I chose to come here because of price. I am sel pay. For 6 months prior I have researched everything I possibly could and was lucky enough to know many people who had gone through the same medical group as me. If I had to do this "blindly" I dont know if I would have. Word of mouth is extremely important when you are considering going out of country. 1 Amytequilahouse reacted to this
