Hi Im 319 pounds and I wanted to have a sleeve surgery but my surgeon said that sleeve wont cut down all your excess weight and you have to get a bypass surgery.I wanted to know if there is some one like me who had a sleeve surgery and lost all the excess weight.

Hmm we never had a set number of weight loss. Its going to be different for each person. I'm pretty sure the sleeve number is 70-80% loss of your excess weight within 3 years.

I vote sleeve, but it depends on what your expectations are. I don't need to be 120lbs to be happy or healthy.

I chose sleeve knowing weight loss is 50-75% and bypass is I think 70-85%... my coworker who had bypass one year ago went from 238 to 134 and I had sleeve a week later then her and went from 256 to 196....I think I hit the 50% mark and have stopped to a crawl, maybe a pound a month,,,,so looking at her defenitely makes me regret my choice sometimes......Everyone is different though...Alot of women and men on here have lost 85-90 percent.....so just gotta go with your gut....good luck on your journey :)

There are a lot of people on here who have lost all their excess weight. I chose the sleeve because it has fewer complications than the bypass. There are no problems with malabsorption or dumping syndrome like with the bypass. Although the bypass can be reversed and the sleeve cannot, I felt more comfortable with doing the sleeve & couldn't be happier with my decision. However, you need to do what is right for you.

I went in for a bypass and woke up with a sleeve. Prior to that I had done zero research on sleeves. I'm only 7 weeks out and so far very happy with how things turned out. I'm losing, although I would consider it slowly. I am glad to not have to worry about special Vitamins, B-12 shots, and dumping for the rest of my life.

If I am not where I think I should be a year from now, I will consider a bypass. My surgeon said once I lose 100 pounds I could get one if I wanted. I have lost 80 pounds now. I honestly don't want to get a bypass so I will be praying that my sleeve continues to work for me.

I was 315 and now im 285. I got the sleeve about a month ago. I chose the sleeve because im scared to death of the dumping that comes with bypass and all the Vitamins. Of course if I over eat im sick but it isn't as bad as it could be. I also have ibs and rerouting my intestines probably wouldn't be a good idea

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
