I chew gum all the time. Swallowing gum can cause some problems with the sleeve I imagine, so don't do that :P

Yup! You can chew gum, I chewed gum leaving the hospital. They told me I couldn't use a straw but since I use a straw with whatever I'm drinking, I used a straw anyway, no problems with that either. I'm such a rebel! LOL B)

Hi llovemeforeverapril

my NUT told me not to chew gum anytime, anywhere, ever. - its too easy to accidently swallow. Also my NUT said never to use a straw, something about "air in your stomach?" not sure

also no soda, due to the carbonation, i know many people sparingly drink soda, they might feel ok, but i was told that soda is not good for you post surgery.

the above is just from my NUT

My nut says no gum, ever, introduces air into your sleeve. Also soda and straws are a no no for the same reason so I have not had any of them..

My doc said I can use a straw as long as it doesnt affect me. Some people just take in extra air with straws. It's not that it will hurt your sleeve.

I was told no gum early on because of threat of swallowing it, but I'm not sure about long term. I was told no straws for 3-4 months because of swallowing extra air that curse gas bubbles to form mad can just be uncomfortable. However, I'm thinking of asking if I can try a straw because I actually think I might take up less air with a straw than with the way I sip stuff.

Since so many doctors are different, I would ask your doctor.

I was told yes gum -(just don't swallow it- how often do adults swallow their gum) yeah- and to USE a straw because it actually cuts down on air intake :) every one is different though and seems like surgeons/nuts are too!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
