Hey everyone, I am trying to get all my ducks in a row for surgery. I know I still have almost a month to go but the time will be here before I know it. I guess I have two questions, 1st is there anything that you would recommend for me to tell my husband to make sure he finds out after my surgery? 2nd is there anything either before, after, or during the whole process that you wish you would've known?

My husband has supported me through this 100% and will be with me after my surgery stay. I've seen ear plugs and something to read or watch for him as he will get bored and there will be lots of things going on at the hospital.

Thanks,

The only thing that STILL sticks out in my mind from post-op was that I didn't have the correct way to measure my liquid pain medicine. I only wanted ONE measly dose, but it was measured in mLs and I only have ounce measuring devices at home. I was so out of it at the time that I gave up on finding the conversion and went to bed. I still have an unopened bottle of loritab liquid that I can't find a way to get rid of legally.

The only thing I can think of is to warn him that hormone changes post surgery may cause you to get a little crabby. I had read enough on this forum to know it was coming and I warned my wife, so she wasn't too upset when I bit her head off a time or two. Happens for men and women too.

Lisa -You can take unsed medicine to any pharmacy. That is what I did.

Sunshine -My husband brought puzzle magazines, ipod, and a book. He ate outside of my room (I was nauseated the first few days).

Good luck!

Get a syringe from CVS/Walgreens for your liquid meds. Very precise, no spilling and you can measure small amounts very precisely.

Second- if he is a weeper or a worrier he needs to have someone to talk to when you are in surgery- a friend/family member that can keep him positive.

I have a weepy one and the surgeon came out the tell him I was in recovery and just fine and before the surgeon could say a word he started crying! :)

Yes I do have a softie lol he is already worrying and can be a crier, he would kill me if he knew I said that out loud to anyone better. He will have his phone and a book for sure. The syringe is awesome I had not thought of that thanks so much.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
