Hang in there. You can do this! I am having the sleeve on may 29. However I had the lap band in 2008, then had it removed in 2010. I remember crying because I was so hungry, or so I thought I was. After two years of eating, i cry due to the fact that being fat has caused me to be miserable. You can do this. Try sipping on warm tea or chicken or beef broth. Hang in there!

I'm so sorry u Feel that way, that really scares me since my day is July 3rd. If is any consolation ; a good friend of mine was feeling the same exact way after surgery, today she is the one motivating me so I don't get nervous. She looks fabulous 70 lbs lighter and looking and feeling so much younger! ;) I hope the spams get better and just think that there is an end to the tunnel!

I think the 2nd thru fourth weeks are the hardest, at least they were for me. However, you should talk to your doctor if you can't even tolerate liquids. .

Thanks y'all!! Don't be nervous, the pain and all that is really not that bad! I'm 99% back to my normal life just 5 days later.. I know it's so soon and I just need to relax and take it day by day! I can't wait to see results! Sorry for freaking you out but I LOVE food so just going from one extreme to the next is a huge deal!!!! So thankful I found this for support!

Just remember, one day you will be able to eat anything you want, in smaller portions.

There is not one thing I can't eat.

I just got a book from Amazon called The Weight Loss Surgery Comapnion Book by Tania Kabla. Helps identify and address issues many of us go through like head hunger, stress eating, loneliness, and our changing bodies.

Hope this helps. And remember, this too will pass and a brighter day is right around the corner.

Awe girl, I had the spasms too. They are murder! They ease up as some of the rawness on the inside gets better. Just know that most of what is going on with you with the food issues is a mind thing. Your body isn't really hungry right now. It's more in shock. It will get some better when you can get something thicker in your mouth. But keep in mind, this is just a process. In a few weeks you will be able to eat anything you want and not have to worry about gorging on it. One bite and you will be finished.

I hear you! I was sleeved 5/16 and I want to cry when everyone else is eating dinner and I am sipping broth. But we have to keep our eyes on the prize! All of this will pay off in the end! Hang in there my dear!

I am definitely going to look into that book! Thanks : )

Can u eat ice cream and Cookies and stuff? I know i know...why cant i be stronger????but today i was eating a oreo shake (im trying give sweets a good farewell send off before my sleeve in august) and i was thinking "omg for THE REST OF MY LIFE I WILL NEVER HAVE MY FAVORITE FOODS EVERRRRRRRR!!!!" and then i thought "well whats the purpose of this sleeve?! And which would you rather have: healthy, beautiful life orrrrr an expanded sleeve, slow weight loss progress and $7000 down the drain (mexico- Dr. Ortiz)?"

You can see Im having a real internal conflict! Hahaha. But yes, i just wanted to see if you love sweets too because I read everywhere that sleeved people can never have ice cream again bc it slows down the weight loss.

My surgery is in August... Is it too early to start reading the book... Or can you direct me to a great book for preparing for the post- surgery issues? Im soooo excited! But its going to be weird and sad (yes, sad) that i wont be able to over eat my sweets! You know the crazy thing is... Im starting to eat more sweets now thinking "oh well im going to have the sleeve soon anyways..." i keep making excuses. And altho im admitting this on here now im sure ill end up doing it after i get off my iphone! Its sad because im a bridesmaid in my cousins wedding in july and once upon a time i was more fit than all of them (like two years ago)... And now all the bridesmaids are skinny minnies and im stuck in the plus size dress... Still not really willing to give up this psychological relationship with food.

HELP ANYONE????!!

That's what I did before and I kinda wish I didn't! Because it only makes it harder... You should probably start a pre op diet! I started for two weeks and it wasn't miserable... Definitely start reading the book now so your not in complete shock like I was when I got out of surgery! I went to the doctor today for one week post op and I already lost 17lbs! So it feels great... But still A LOT TO get used to..

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
