SkinnyOnMe 81 Posted May 21, 2012 Is 75% too much? Because I think so. What is normal?
JimmyGotSLEEVED 270 Posted May 21, 2012 It's usually 85% of the stomach for this surgery
minniekitty 44 Posted May 21, 2012 I think 75% is within the range normally removed for VSG (it varies from surgeon to surgeon). I had 85% of mine taken out. My boyfriend calls it my baby stomach because I eat like a baby (or maybe a toddler?) now 1 sylviajara reacted to this
Mr_Worm 129 Posted May 21, 2012 Its not too less if you need a 100% method of Portion Control that apparently I needed...Its amazing at how you view food portions pre vsg vs post
Dooter 1,457 Posted May 21, 2012 I was told 85% also. If they do not take enough of the stomach, then the stretchy part of the stomach will remain and can stretch back out again causing weight gain. They have to take out enough to get down to the non-stretchy part to keep good restriction. (I'm not very eloquent tonight, cheeeez!)
missmeow 156 Posted May 21, 2012 If they did 2 cup capacity at 1 year out, I would be on board. It seems the push is for 1 cup max now. That makes me not so on board.

missmeow 156 Posted May 22, 2012 Not really. A normal stomach is 6-8 cups, so 2 cups is 1/4th to 1/3rd of a normal stomach. It would not be a large stomach by any stretch. *shrug* You know, someone having concerns about the current state of the procedure doesn't negate anyone's choice to have it done. Sleeved&Hopeful 182 Posted May 22, 2012 MissMeow, ask your surgeon for a larger bougie size if you don't want too much taken out.Good luck
missmeow 156 Posted May 22, 2012 OMG, do they do that?
Lissa 2,631 Posted May 22, 2012 Yes, they can and will give you a bigger bougie. Of course, you may want to read some research about success rates vs bougie size. It seems that many surgeons are going to a slightly larger bougie as a matter of course. I guess the standard size used to be about 32, but I've heard of people having a bougie as large as 40. Those measurements are in millimeters so the difference isn't as long as the word difference on your screen. 1 Vsglass reacted to this
