Stopping Bc Pills For Surgery

Recommended Posts

My surgeon is having me stop my BC pills prior to surgery. Did anyone else do this? If so how did you do it? Just not start a new pack? Or stop mid cycle?

I took my pill right before I went into the operating room and have continued as normal. My doc told me that upon losing weight we increase our chances of pregnancy and we all know being pregnant when you can barely provide enough nutrients for yourself is a no-no.

I stopped taking my pills after I completed my last pack, and then I had surgery a month later. I still have not started them back yet, but I am not concerned about pregnancy - I was only taking them to regulate my cycle.

Thank you. Shad that doesn't help me because my surgeon told me to stop them to lessen my chance of blood clots. I'm 43 and not going to be getting pregnant.

Thank you Shoelover! That's kind of what I was planning. I would be due to start a new pack next weekend, with surgery 2.5 weeks later. So I figure I just won't start a new pack! I also figure my cycles are gonna be pretty crazy for a few months anyway! Did you see this?

My first period after surgery was kinda crazy, but the last one was pretty normal. I'll probably start a new pack later this month. I stopped taking mine to lessen the chances of a blood clot as well.

I had never heard of it until now! I have uterine fibroids - does it treat that too? I'd love to get off the pill but my fibroids make it difficult. Why did you get novasure? Now I'm curious!

I had to stop them for 30 days before & after. I was lucky that I had only taken one pill in my new pack when I stopped. I would actually ask your surgeon or gynecologist if it's okay to stop in the middle or not.

As far as after, I just talked to my gynecologist yesterday & he said to wait until my next period & then start the pills again (which should be around my 30 day mark anyway) and also to make sure we use condoms for the first month back on the pills again since they've been out of my system for 60 days.

I also have fibroids. I had it done two summers ago and it was the best thing ever. You have be sure that you are done having (or not having) babies.

I had it done because my periods were so heavy that I had to cancel life when it came for the first day or two. I was also quite anemic. Now, I don't need anything more than a liner if I get it all, that is.

Hmm, I will check with my doctor about that! Sounds awesome!

Michelle, that's exactly what I did. I simply did not start my new pack after my last period. I'll start them again after surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
