3 Weeks Post-Op And Having Doubts

Recommended Posts

Even tough I am in the early stages of my journey, I feel like I can relate. I am totally out of control trying to eat up all the stuff I won't be able to eat for awhile. I am so attached to food, I know I will grieve it's loss. My appt with the surgeon is June 11. It's like I'm trying to think of all the food I might want later and eating it all right now.

I know my actions are not rational & are actually quite obsessive. How do you breakup with your best friend (food)?

I did the same thing! I'm embarrassed to say, but my favorite treat was Cookies and Bryers Homemade vanilla Ice cream, and I would eat almost 2 half gallons in a week. I wanted to have steak and salad and Olive Garden before my surgery, but unfortunately I got sick 2 weeks before my surgery and that didn't work out :( As for breaking up with my best friend, we're kind of just in the not talking stage right now, lol, I havent been able to actually break up yet :)

Mk ,

This not related to your post but I got excited because you are using the mercy health in fairfield where I live and just wanted to say hello! I was going use them but I was wanting to use drcurry for lapband but changed to sleeve a few weeks ago. Anyways just got happy when I saw the Fairfield Ohio. :)

I LOVE Dr Northup at Mercy. They have such a great program there and its all geared to people that are overweight. The people that work in the office and the nutritionists and Ann, the patient care advocate are great. Where are you having your surgery done at? The nurses were great at Mercy too. All in all it was a great experience, considering it was surgery, lol. I never felt judged for being there for weight loss surgery. Good luck! Its hard, but I know in the long run it will be well worth it!

I went through the same thing a month after surgery, I realized how much I was a "mental eater", I couldn't eat like before but I was craving Everything you could think of, I felt like I was in detox or something. I thought after this surgery a lot of the cravings would go away, Nope! not for me! Now I am about 10wks out I am in a comfortable place now. I eat my Proteins first (including a Protein shake) but I eat the Proteins I want, soft crab meat, eggs, fish, etc. I don't measure anything I just take the bites I can and I'm usually done after 3 to 4 bites anyway, but I do this every 3 to 3 1/2 hrs, I noted after the 4th week my weight loss slowed down because I wasn't eating enough calories to burn off my weight but now its going okay, I do sneak in a hershey kiss every once in a while I still crave chocolate but after one or two a day (depending on what time of the month it is) I'm good. What I used to crave I don't feel for anymore, I haven't eaten rice or breads since before the surgery, I have no taste for them anymore, I'm not a big starch eater like I was which I'm really glad for.

Gotta have patience with this new life. After a while we all will get used to the new "Sleeved Life" and it won't be a problem anymore, its just the journey thats a little bumpy.

God Bless MK we are all in this together!!! :D

I'm having mine done at fast track weightloss center in Cincinnati with dr. Curry . I really like him and his staff. If I never had interest in the lapband then I would have seen your dr. Because I live less than a mile from there. Haha I'm glad all went well with you. And happy to hear of your weightloss. :) this time next year our lives will not be the same!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
