6 Days Post-Op, Is This Normal?

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I was finally starting to improve and tollerate a little more Protein and actually feel a little more energy by the end of the day. I have had good luck with getting Water down since about day 3. However, starting last night my stomach keeps cramping or spasming with a cramp and kind of sharp pain where the stomach is located even after just sips of water again. And this morning as well, just can't seem to settle it down. Is it normal for your stomach to be a little "tempermental" after it seemed like it was getting better. Should I be concerned or do I just ride it out?

Yeah, it's pretty normal for your tummy to rebel a little. The swelling is going down and nerves are coming back "online", so you're healing! :) The bad news is that now your sleeve is going to be picky about dealing with heat or cold. Try changing up the temp of what you're drinking. Try hot, warm and cold drinks to see which goes down easiest. Try changing the consistency as well. Soup, broth, Water, just a little thicker or thinner may work better too.

Good luck! :)

I am 6 days post-op and I have been experiencing the same problem. However, I started the 2nd day and the doctor said that this is in fact normal. 5th day much better and today none so far (10:50 A.M). He also said that some people experience a heavy feeling in their chest. I am feeling a little weak today and somewhat tired. together we will make it.

Thanks. Maybe I just tried to get too much in too fast? I'm slowing it down again today. Just hate the light headed feeling when you don't get enough of the suppliments in. The warm Water is what does seem to work better. I ordered a mug warmer so it will stay warmer longer since it takes so long to get it down.

I've found warm is better because it does not cause my stomach to spasm or get the hiccups. I had warm tea with some powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored Protein and a little honey for sweet and drank it over an hr (20oz). If I added ice I noticed I didnt want it.

Also noticed egg Soup broth is good too!

Well last night things started to get even more difficult and felt as if something was stuck in my esophagus or something, lot of pain and pressure, and this morning very hard to get the Water in. I can still do it, but it hurts bad and started refluxing the water right back into my mouth a little. Doctor says I have a stricture and is doing an EGD Wednesday morning to stretch it back out. :( Everyone make sure you call your doctor with any kind of change because it may actually mean something or be a complication. Better safe than sorry.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
