Hello everyone, I'm new to this site and just started my journey. I'm 26 years old and I live Brooklyn, NY. I just wanted to know if anyone has medicaid and the process they had to go through to get approve for their surgery because am hoping that I can have my surgery by this summer while my kids are out of school.

I'M 27 AND I'M FROM BROOKLYN AS WELL, I HAVE MEDICAID, I STARTED MY PROCESS MAY 2012 AND I JUST SUBMITTED TO INSURANCE ON JAN 17TH, I COULD HAVE HAD IT A FEW MONTHS EARLIER BUT I STARTED MY NUTRITIONAL VISITS LATE, I WOULD SUGGEST MAKING THAT A TOP PRIORITY BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO BE SEEN EVERY 4 WEEKS FOR 6 MONTHS, THAT TAKES THE LONGEST TIME AND IS THE MOST IMPT . YOU NEED TO GET BLOOD WORK DONE, CHEST XRAY, EKG, ABDOMINAL SONOGRAM, PSYCH CLEARANCE, PFT TEST, ENDOSCOPY,SLEEP STUDY,MEDICAL CLEARANCE AND NECESSITY LETTER, AND 6 NUTRITIONAL VISITS. I'M HAVING MY SURGERY AT METHODIST WITH DR CARRYL

Thanks K-Marie for the information, I hope I can have my surgery in Brooklyn Hospital because I just had my first consultation with nutritionist and meet all the staff this past Wednesday and it went good. So I guess my journey has begin, I'm so scared.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
