There is no sure way to avoid Hair loss if it is going to happen--it doesn't happen to everyone. Shampoos. conditioners, and the like will not stop it. Not washing it doesnt stop it, it just falls out onto your clothes. However, you can limit the loss by meeting your Protein goals and making sure to take your complete Vitamins, the ones with minerals included. My hair began to fall out at 3 months post-op and stopped at nine months. Very, very few people lose enough hair to where it is noticeable to others. BTW, Biotin can help the regrowth come in strong and healthy, but won't stop the loss.

Protein is supposed to help, but it's a crap shoot. I did Optifast through kaiser in 2007 and lost over 100 lbs and 5 months in i started losing a ton of hair. It sucked bad. No one else could really tell but it was obvious to me and when it started growing back in I had short hairs shooting straight up all over my head. Apparently your body reacts to the weight and nutrient loss by redirecting other Protein sources like hair & nails to more vital organs. Or so they say. It will come back tho.

Besides being a paralegal, I also have my cosmetology license. hair loss can happen at about 3-4 months out. It doesn't mean you are going to go straight up bald though. Your hair may become more fine, and it may break a little easier, etc.

To combat that, make sure you get your Protein and Water in and you take your Multivitamins daily (I am going to use optisource chewables 4x's a day, sublingual B12 and Biotin. Biotin has been proven to help brittle hair & nails. In combination with the Protein, and keeping yourself dehydrated, it's a good tool to help you.

The reason why at 3-4 months this happens is just like what happens to your fingernails if you get sick, you don't notice them become brittle with ridges and waves until it grows out to a certain length, just like hair. Surgery itself is hard on the body, but you can do things before and after to lessen the affects of it.

It stands to reason that perhaps if you can skip blow drying, curling, straightening your hair once in a while, that will help out. Also make sure if you go swimming to deep condition before you go, use a leave in conditioner, do some deep conditioning treatments. I also suggest try to avoid harsh hair clips, rubber bands and hats during for the first months.

Not saying you can't get your hair done and do all this, but be gentle on your hair when you can and get your protein and Water in.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
