apricot1119 105 Posted May 19, 2012 Even though I am self pay my surgen requires a letter of medical necessity. I am paranoid my primary won't do it! I am just so worried that something is going to stand in the way of my sleeve!
NJsharon 119 Posted May 19, 2012 Good luck, hope you get that letter! Otherwise, consider Mexico for surgery. They have some very experienced drs there, much lower self-pay cost & my personal dr (Dr Kelly) made it a fun vacation too! I didn't need any pre-approval for Dr Kelly either or any letters. massindex 346 Posted May 19, 2012 Medical necessity means you have a condition requiring the surgery, such as morbid obesity, sleep apena, diabeties, etc and sometimes 2 of these items. You PCP should no problem getting you this if your BMI is 35 or above.
Rootman 1,101 Posted May 19, 2012 You never know until you try! Go for it girl! If they say NO the appeal. Go and get it. I wanted it so bad I actually did self pay in Mexico - not for everyone but I wanted and wanted it NOW, not in 6 to 12 months. Give it a thought, it's a possiblity.
