May 22 Surgery :) ~:( So Unsure At This Point Please Tell Me I Am Not The Only One?!?

Recommended Posts

I have been so excited till the past 3 days and have been going through all the BS hoops for almost 3 yrs to get the surgery and now i feel like i am on a roller coaster!?! I can't sleep, tossing and turning, mind is racing, stomach is in knots and everything i eat and drink comes right back out, sorry if that was TMI:)

I went to a WLS suport group last night with some questions and walked out 4 hrs later with more question then when i went in! UGH' am i just nervous? Has anyone else felt like this? Any input would be wonderful!

Hi Nanny3Kids. I am still preop with surgery scheduled for June 5, 2012. I just wanted to say I'm sorry you are going through a rough time right now. Hang in there girl! I've read a lot of posts and many people have posted feelings similar to yours right prior to surgery and responses from people who had already had the surgery who said they felt the same way. One thing I do know, is that when asked, postop people say they wish they would have had this procedure earlier.

Good luck to you in your journey to a "new" you!

Take Care!

I'm on May 21, and although I know it's the right thing, I'm still scared and nervous. Am I really going to the hospital and saying, "Please cut out most of my stomach"? It's going to make such a difference to our long term physical and mental health, though. It's empowering to take this step for myself - it's a hard decision, and I've made it, and of you're like me, you've been over it a million times and you know it's best. It is scary, and it's going to be tough, but we're all here for each other.

This place is the best!

Do it! You will be soooo glad you did! I only had 50- 60 pounds to lose total going into this surgery but was tired of fighting the fight that goes along with the everyday struggle with weight loss so many of us are familiar with. Mine was a complete personal choice(which of course it has to be). My husband thought I had truly flipped my top when I said WLS and I have three young kids(6,7,10) who really need a Mom still! I struggled with the "selfishness" of it. the "what if" something went wrong for a week before the surgery. I realized after doing it that the risks are so very minimal and the personal growth and but how it changes our minds and habits to that of a healthy person is so totally rewarding. I now watch people mindlessly eat and shovel food into their mouth, not in a critical or judgemental way, but silently in a "that used to be me and thank goodness it's not me anymore way" I told everybody I knew and still tell everybody I know if asked or it comes up bc I feel like if it changes one other person's life for the better like it did mine, we are helping somehow ;-) That being said, I still think you should do it without hesitation! The only thing I will say is be absolutely sure you are doing it for you and only you since it is truly a mental game sometimes and will eventually cause you to dig deep and ultimately realize how "addicted" you were to food after all the "you look great" comments begin to subside. I never thought I was a food addict, but I certainly was! Best decision I've ever made in 41 years of life.....no regrets at all!

In a few days you'll be making the most wonderful change in your life that you will never regret. It may be difficult at first, but it gets easier every day.

Eating with the sleeve is a learning experience. Just check in here frequently if you have questions as you move through the food stages.

You will do great! The sleeve is such a gift!

What are your questions and reservations? Maybe you could ask them here or search the forums to find answers and/or support.

I was just sleeved on Monday, 5/14, and am doing great and I can already say this is the best thing I've ever done for myself. I've said before that if I could lose weight and keep it off without surgery, I would have done it that way. However, I didn't feel I could do it without surgery. I told a friend before surgery that I felt this would be my Portion Control tool. I not only feel it is portion control now, but I also feel it is my cure to my food addiction. I know a lot of people experience "head hunger" due to prior addiction to food before surgery. So far, (knock on wood) I have not experienced that. I am still on Clear liquids, so it might change. However, whether I experience head hunger or not, I still feel this is the best thing I've ever done for myself and it is the tool I need to finally get healthy and stay healthy. The longer I was overweight, the more medical issues I've had. Since surgery, I've been off my diabetes medicine (I was only on oral meds & not insulin) and my sugars have been great. I have sleep apnea and am hoping to get off my CPAP machine eventually. I have had a lot of back and hip pain in the past, which is already less since I lost 13 lbs with my pre-op diet and have lost 4 since surgery on Monday, and I know it will get even better with more weight loss.

Although I know this was right for me, though, I know it is not the answer for everyone. It is a life change. Not just a "for a while" change. There are plenty of things to consider. I put a lot of faith in prayer and that was a big thing for me and big factor in my decision. I also researched a lot and talked to a lot of people who have had it done. Ultimately, no matter what other people say, you have to decide if it's right for you and your life and your family. Good luck no matter what you decide!!

Hi

I am from Australia and due to have surgery on the 24th May I am also feeling scared and anxious. I think we are supposed to feel like this especially where any surgery is concerned. I know I do have a choice to go ahead or not but for my healths sake I have to do it. This time next week the op will be over with and the recovery starts and hard work begins with many changes

My surgery is May 29th, and I have been a nervous wreck too. It is WEIRD to go into surgery and to have actually have ASKED for it. As a food addict, I am truly hoping to have the result so many people have had; no more addiction! My biggest concern is imagining my life without being food centered. I LOVE food!!! Before this pre-op diet, I would wake up thinking about what I was going to eat, get through my day dreaming of dinner, and plan vacations around cool eateries I had seen on Man v/s Food! Yes, I am that bad! I am diabetic, on pills AND injections, have high cholesterol, and other issues. I have got to take back control of myself. Like you, I hope this is the right decision, but without it, I can't control myself. I give up far too easily! We can do this!!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
