How many weeks prior to surgery do you need to be smoke free for surgery? I quit in jan and fell off the wagon on the 26th. Feb was on and off. March is a blur lol well I've been on and off. My surgery is on June 4th. Should I quit now? Or enjoy my last weekend lol

Haha i don't judge anyone and the smoke is what I like. :) some choose to drink, some choose to do drugs, I choose to smoke. I'm 30 and do what I want lol. I will quit in Sunday. It will be a whole two weeks prior to surgery. I read it takes 24 hrs to clean your system. Smelly Cat... Smelly Cat it's not your fault lol I just remembered that song lol Friends :)

I quit smoking on November 1, 2010 after 28 years of 1-2 packs a day. I had two half-hearted attempts prior, but I was one that loooooves smoking - I didn't want to quit but I knew I had to if I wanted to live.

I went on Wellbutrin and my Dr. recommended stacking Nicotine replacement as well - I don't tolerate the gum or lozenges well, so I used the strongest nicotine patch they make. I joined quitnet and I swear - the Wellbutrin is some kind of magic drug. The first weeks were not pleasant, but with the Patches and reminding myself that the incessant craving only last a minute or two, and then the urge passes. Believe me, in the beginning the urge is literally every 15 seconds, I never, ever thought I would be able to quit.

Now I never think about them - ahh well maybe once every few weeks I do.

What keeps me quit is remembering my husband in tears because he was so happy my quit was successful.

And never wanting to go through the hell of quitting smoking again - ever. I am free now.

I will definitely quit. I just had my last smoke and threw away the pack, I'm done. I am so on for my countdown. I need this life change so bad. Thank you guys for sharing yalls details with me. I know its super hard to quit but stop and think .. Don't I want to be able to lose the weight and live my life to the fullest.. Hell FN YESS!!!!

I've quit before and I can do it now.. I can honestly say i'm not a heavy smoker. Its usually when i'm socializing, stressed, or nervous. I only smoke one maybe two a day and sometimes I don't even smoke. I'm sure I will be okay. No need for medication. I think my goal for the SURGERY is something that will MOTIVATE me to the fullest !!

"I've quit before and I can do it now.. "

If you are still smoking, you have not quit, you just took some long breaks.

I took long breaks in the past too, but finally quit (cold turkey) for good 12/21/09 after many years of being a 2 pack a day smoker. Best decision I ever made. It is not easy, and it takes a ton of will power.

If you don't have the will power to quit smoking, what makes you think you will have the will power to adopt the lifestyle changes WLS requires?

8 year smoker. I quit this past February with the aid of Chantix. Smoked for the first 2 weeks on the drug, then stopped. I only get a mild urge to smoke when I drink, but I've cut back on the drinking too so win/win.

Some people hate the crazy dreams but I loved them.

I've smoked for the past 25 years. Quit more times than I can count and always went back. Scheduled my surgery 3+ weeks ago and quit the same day! Broke down 2 nights later (drinking m'ritas with my gal pals) and smoked 1. I went out and bought nicotine Patches and an electronic air cig. Now I very rarely wear those patches and may puff once or twice on the electronic cig on the weekends or when EXTREMELY stressed. This surgery has finally motivated me to make a healthy choice about smoking! I care far more about my health than I do those stinky smokes!!! Come surgery time I will have been smoke free for 6 weeks.

Yeaaaaa me!!!

I think we all have will power issues if not we wouldn't be here getting sleeved as a tool to help us lose the weight. Just saying. I've never used a patch or tried any medication to quit smoking. I quit cold turkey too but my work is stressful and adding to that my boys at work all smoke. I have been ready for WLS for almost two years now. I'm a self pay so I know this is a must. I got the will power. Just takes me a but longer to grasp it. I'll be fine I know I will. Wouldn't be surprised if I dropped my last one last night and never pick up another one in my life. Pretty girls look raunchy with a smoke in their mouth lol not saying I'm a pretty girl... Might become one though. Gna need that 6buckaroos later to go shopping hahahaha

Awesome!!! :) glad you made the change. I'll be there too I know it. I don't drink it's just the socializing group at work. Cool peeps are to the left smoking. Boring to the right non smokers lol. Maybe I need to go to the right and get that party started hahaha

My Dr. Said he won't perform the surgery if you smoke and they can apparently test your blood to see if you do. He said anyone who did needed to quit ASAP and that was back at our information seminar. Good luck!!!I smoked for years and quit before my seminar.I can't see making this healthy change and still harming myself thru smoking.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
