shelleyrn22 78 Posted May 19, 2012 Someone please tell me it gets easier! I'm scared to drink - even tiny sips!
sleeved2012 1 Posted May 19, 2012 im 8 days post op and yes it does get easier. i remember trying to drink from the medicine cup in the hosptal and it being very difficult. I can now drink from a bottle or a cup though im still figuring out the whole sipping deal. small sips are key. you will know if you have done too much. i know automatically if i have taken too big of a sip its going to give me some pressure in my chest and its uncomfortable. congrats on your surgery and keep moving forward. remember to walk too. MyGastricSleeveLife 180 Posted May 19, 2012 I was sleeved on Monday. It does get easier!! I couldn't have anything from surgery until the next morning when I did my leak test. I understand their reasoning, but also think it's a bit cruel to have us drink that crappy stuff as our first sip of something!! After my leak test I mainly sucked on ice chips for the next few hours. Then they brought me broth & Jello, which I got down really slowly. I still preferred the ice chips more than anything else in the hospital. I'm on Clear liquids for 2 weeks. It's taking me all day to get everything in, but I'm doing it. The first time I tried a cup of broth at home it took me about 90 minutes to have! I find that warmer things go down easier. I used to like cold Water, but now I warm everything up in my mouth before swallowing. Now it still takes me about 20-30 minutes for a cup of broth, but that's better than 90 minutes that first day! Just take it slow. One sip/spoonful at a time! It does get easier!! 1 nabird77 reacted to this

shelleyrn22 78 Posted May 19, 2012 Yes... Feel 100% better than yesterday! I'm taking in 2-3oz at a time; usually takes about 20mins or more. I've been up most the day,but I'm ready for a nap!

shelleyrn22 78 Posted May 19, 2012 The worst part now is trying to learn my new "full" signals. Is it the pressure I feel? Is it when my stomach starts rolling? I haven't a clue!
MyGastricSleeveLife 180 Posted May 19, 2012 Are you still on liquids? I'm still on Clear Liquids & don't really ever feel "full" but I'm satisfied as long as I'm sipping throughout the day. I feel a little more full if I have some SF Jello, but with just liquid I haven't felt necessarily full. I figured that would be something more to experience once I'm on full liquids since those are denser or maybe not even until puréed stuff, but I'm not sure. shelleyrn22 78 Posted May 19, 2012 I've advanced to Protein Shakes and that's about it. I'm terrified of overdoing it. I've only been nauseated twice since surgery and that scared me.
Calicolea 38 Posted May 19, 2012 Glad to hear your surgery went well and you are on the road to recovery. Yes, it does get better. It's been two weeks since my surgery and I can see progress everyday and I'm sure you will too.
MG in SD 75 Posted May 19, 2012 I was sleeved on Monday and on day 6 I'm doing pretty good. Yeah slow sips, frequent walks, and rest. Surgery day and the day after sucked for me too. Sent from my iPhone using VST
mylifemyway 0 Posted May 19, 2012 I was sleeved on Tuesday and the back pain (upper left side) was horrible. I also have pain in my lower left region of the abdomin (not soreness from surgery) I am curious to know if it is gas pain as well. I belch a lot so I hope that is my/our way of releasing gas. For days in , I now feel comfortable with taking sips of Water and apple juice. When I do take sipa I feel the fluids moving in my body. Is that normal? FYI:my surgery is a revision- I lost 130 lbs with the band and then the darn thing slipped and it was all downhill from that point.
