2 Week Post Op Full Liquid Diet Suggestions

Recommended Posts

Im 8 days post op and started my full Protein diet yesterday. As of right now i can tolerate Tomato Soup. I drink EAS chocolate Protein shakes to get some Protein in. I have found that to get even more protein I add a scoop of chocolate Protein powder to sf chocolate carnation instant Breakfast and i cant even tell i added anything. I have been struggling to get down my liquids but not becasue i cant tolerate them but because i take in air everytime i try, even if i blow it all out first. i regret it about 2 minutes after when my chest and stomach hurt. I tried cheese Soup becasue i was craving cheese badly. That didnt go over so well. After i ate it i felt gross and i had alot of gas built up. I know that everybody is different and can tolerate different things.

So are there any suggestions to what else i can drink while im on my full liquids? what worked for you? what didnt work for you?

Are you using a straw? That is a big no no from what I was told. I am 10 days post op, and I struggled till about yesterday. I woke up yesterday morning and I was not feeling the uncomfortable sensation I had been. I have tolerated more than just a 2 tsp and I can drink more now. I have tolerated Tomato Soup, cheese Soup, broccoli cheese soup (blended) and I found the EAS drinks are what my body tolerates the best. Good Luck and Congrats to you on being sleeved.

I hope this helps...

no i dont use a straw at all because i too heard that it isnt allowed. I tend to take sips that are too big so i guess that is my problem. it slowly got easier to drink more and more but i instantly know after i swallow too much that its going to hurt in about a minute.

Thanks and Congrats to you as well. Best Wishes

I haven't had surgery yet, but I notice when I used my magic bullet it really makes my shakes quite airy & bubbly, so that may be a cause of some of the gas you are experiencing because I get it if it's too foamy. I usually have to let it settle down before I drink it.

I'm planning on buying the 100% whey Protein (unflavored) to supplement Soups and even supplement my Pure Protein Frosty chocolate which has 25gm protein with the unflavored.

Good luck to you.

you might want to ask your surgeon if it's okay to TRY a straw just to see what happens. I read a thread last week where someone said they actually took in more air without a straw than with a straw so they were able to use straws even though the general rule is not to use them. I know I've had to change how I drink to not take in too much air. It's definitely trial and error.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
