"I sure hope you know what your getting yourself into" in response to getting the gastric sleeve done.(this person does not have the sleeve done) Really? Are you kidding me? Like I havent read every little peice of information and watched every youtube video til all hours of the night for MONTHS!? This is not a decision that you take lightly and it frustrates me when this person says this. (more than once) I just needed to vent to people who I know will understand :)

Well, if they're giving you an obnoxious comment, you're allowed to be obnoxious back. The answer I'd give is "Yep, I sure do know what I'm getting myself into" and go on to the next subject. If they then comment negatively again, I'd respond with "Yep, this is going to save my life, improve my pre-diabetic condition (which obesity is), and make me feel better about myself". No One can argue with "medically necessary". Trust me, I know.

I had some friends at work who were very sincere but concerned for me because of the high incidence of complications with bypass (we work in health insurance and have seen lots of patients with issues). However, since I had my surgery they are all thrilled for me and my success. A girl I work with had the surgery in December, another is scheduled for June 1, and another just asked me for my surgeon's info!

I did respond with something very similar! ;) It just irks me to no end! It makes me feel like I have to defend myself, this is one reason why I chose not to tell a lot of people before hand. I stress myself out enough without the help of other's lol. Afterwards when I am comfortable I plan to share my experience with any and all who ask. Thanks for the advice :)

Its funny how people feel they are entitled to weigh in on such a personal decision. If you were having heart bypass surgery, they probably wouldn't question it for a second.

Even my sister, who's incredibly supportive, said I've lost weight in the past so why couldn't I just try to diet again. But she's coming around thankfully.

This week I found out exactly how all my coworkers REALLY feel about my WLS - they are having the annual Wellness weightloss challenge and they won't let me participate because "it would be cheating" . Well well... I guess it just proves again that I made the right decision because I WILL be the biggest loser :D

It's their ignorance (as in absence of information) that I think they are saying that from. You have done ur research and can feel confident in your decision. They lack the information, so of course, they are going to respond negatively.

Yeah, and did you ever notice it's typically the FATTEST people who "warn" you the most :)

Oh, and the old "My brother-in-law's cousins roomates sister's friend had bariatric surgery and it didn't work! She's fatter than ever and started to turn green" (or some other stupid "side effect".

Hey, I appreciate their "concern" but just like it was entirly MY choice - or series of choices - to get morbidly obese it was MY choice to get bariatric surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
