I have a couple questions. First is I'm a big tea drinker. Hot tea in the am is the best. I have a whole bunch of regular lipton tea bags, my question is should I get rid of them? They are not the Decaf one and I'm not sure if I will ever be able to drink regular tea again. What would you do? I'm cleaning out my cupboards trying to get rid of the "bad food." I have done wheat Pasta in the cupboard, would you get rid of that too? I'm giving what I can't eat or drink anymore to my mom so it doesn't go to waste. Thank y'all so much for helping me through my journey.

It will all depend on your plan. According to mine, tea should be postponed for 6 months. For two reasons -- the acids & tanins in tea can act as irritatnts to the staple line/stomach, and because tea is a mild diuretic and most of is don't want diuretics.

I've had tea with no problems, I just weaken it down a lot. I checked with NUT before this and she said it's fine, that she'd prefer caffeine free, but since I don't drink coffee or anything else with significant caffeine it was ok.

Wheat Pasta will be fine eventually, probably 8+ weeks out. Some plans are ok with well-cooked Pasta sooner, but I'm not sure that this includes wheat pasta (which to me never cooks to the same nice consistency).

regular tea has more caffiene in it than coffee. say goodbye to it. some people eat whole wheat Pasta. I havent tried it yet. I bought some loose white tea and also some green teas that have very little to no caffiene in them. Teavana has some awsome teas (pricey)

I usually drink mine 2 tea bags of Lipton tea and 2 tbsps. I have managed to cut sugar out of diet. I know use xylitol from vitacost.com. It taste just like sugar but very pricey. I tried Splenda and sweet and low and don't like the after taste. I think I will try and give them one more shot. I drink coffee once in a while, but I have switched to Decaf. I just don't want to do anything to harm my sleeve or myself.

I have bought the Decaf version of Lipton tea, but the other day it upset my stomach and I ended up vomiting. I think anyways that is why I vomited because of the decaf. It was the first time I tried it. My favorite is Starbucks black sweetened tea. I know it's not good for me at all, but it's soo good. I sometimes will drink 2-3 cups Lipton tea at home in the am.

I drink regular Lipton tea every single day and it has not affected my weight loss. Every doctor is different but the basics are the same. The little amount of caffiene that is in the tea is not going to affect me...at least that is what my doctor has said.

I guess I will hang onto it just in case. I guess I will be able to tell if my sleeve liked it after surgery. ;) I'm still little unsure about the wheat Pasta tho.

Tea leaves have more caffeine than coffee Beans, but when brewed coffee has substantially more caffeine as a beverage.

Learned that the hard way when I tried to drink tea to "wake up" DD when I was pregnant with her and going in for my 3D ultrasound.

:) right now it's hard for me to have any caffeine because I am taking ephedrine prescribed by my doctor due to low metabolism. So I can't at the moment have any caffeine. I don't know I'd my body/sleeve will act the same way after surgery. I guess it might b trial and error.

I think if you drink all your liquid for the day 64 oz. then I will drink my caffine coffee or tea for that matter. Cuz as we all know caffene is a diruetic (sp) I haven't had any problems so far and I'm 1 yr 3 months out and have done so since a bout 3 months out.

I must also have my morning tea (2 Decaf tea bags in a 16 oz mug). Can't wait for that first delicious sip.

I switched to decaf just because I don't want to take in the caffeine. I use the sucralose sweetener (3 packets) and about 1/2 tsp of Splenda blend. I like my tea really sweet. If it has an aftertaste, I must have adapted to it, because I just can't bear to cut out my morning tea. I hope you find a palatable mix for yourself.

As for the Pasta, all Pasta has a bunch of carbs in it. I have found other low carb subs. Also, I just eat meatballs without pasta, sometimes with a few black olives, and it wonderful. Also you need to check out the lasagna cupcake recipe on this forum. You make it with wonton wrappers and it is as good or better than any carby lasagna I have eaten.

You will find, I hope, that we somehow adjust to not having all the junk we used to eat and don't even miss it. Sometimes I see people eating stuff that I used to wolf down and wonder how in the world can they do that?

Good luck, Kathe

I drink a little caffeine each day - usually either 1 cup of coffee in the morning or 1 glass of iced tea at lunch. Otherwise it's lots and lots of Water . . .

Also, I forgot to mention that Pasta isn't a 'never again' food but you'll likely find it fills you up too quickly. When I make Pasta for my family I have a tiny bit (usually no more than 1 oz cooked) along with a hearty serving of whatever Protein I make (chicken, meatballs, etc.). I had rosemary chicken lasagna today at lunch, and I picked all the chicken, mushrooms and cheese out of the noodles and just ate that with some of the rosemary cream sauce.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
