I had the first meeting with my NUT yesterday, and was surprised to find out that I'm NOT required to do a 2 week pre-op liquid diet! I guess from lurking on here, I kind of assumed that every doctor requires that. Mine just wants us to lose some weight with a 1200-1700 calorie diet, practice eating every 2-3 hours, getting my Water and some exercise in, and eliminate "white" foods (potatoes, Pasta, rice, etc). He also gave me a few pages with meal plan ideas. Anyone else have a pre-op diet plan that differs from the liquid diet? If you've already had your surgery, any advice?

I was given a 2 week diet & just told to eat healthy. To reduce my carbs, heavier on the Protein, lower sodium etc.

I did start drinking a Protein Drink for Breakfast every day & often had one for lunch as well. Just to get into the habit of getting more protein in.

Then 3 days pre-op I did have a liquid diet.< /p>

Sharon, did you eat cream Soups? Does that mean like cream of broccoli? Or more puréed stuff like butternut squash Soup?

Hola!!

My Surgery was done 3 days ago, my Dr. Also told me the same thing "NO pre-op diet" so for "Mothers Day" I took my mom out to (OutBack) and I eat the last meal and for the 1st time I added dessert lol, any way!! Been on liquid for 3 days, doing great, getting better, walking 10min every hour... The most painful thing for me has been te "GAS" but yet walking helps a lot... Good luck ;)...

Hi Brianna!!

My name is Briana!!! I will be sleeved on 6/14. My doctor does not require a pre-op diet either. Just a liquid diet the day before surgery. Good Luck!

I was allowed cream Soups pre-op, so that meant things like cream of mushroom, cream of brocolli etc. Post op I am not allowed them yet.

i would recommend that you try to atleast eliminate one solid meal and do a Protein Shake instead. I found it difficult to go from solids to liquids even with my 2 week liquid diet.< /p>

Good luck to you with your surgery. Best wishes

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
