I Guess This Is Really Going To Happen.

Recommended Posts

So, my call came in this morning from the surgery nurse. I have to be at the hospital at 5:30 am on Monday morning. I guess this really is going to happen. I just found out I will have a On Q pain catheter inserted. I guess because I'm having a large hernnia repair a the same time. I don't know. I assumed it would be a morphine pain pump but as of this morning that isn't the case. I asked the nurse what this was and she said it was inserted directly into the site. From what I've read it is really good and most people feel no pain at all with this in. I have to be sure to remember to tell them to give me nausea medicine. OH boy... I'm nervous and excited. I'm sure I will blog again on Sunday night fretting about the surgery..

I've lost 13.2 pounds on the pre op so far. I guess I just might make the 15! Wish it had been more but I have really stuck to the diet except for twice which was boiled eggs and lettus... :)

Has anyone had this On Q pain catheter before? If so, weigh in sleevers. I love y'all!! :)

Congrats Lisa, I haven't heard of that catheter before Lisa, but I hope it works great. I also am having hernia surgery with a mesh put in. My pre-op nurse told me that I will be receiving a patch behind the ear which is suppose to help with nausea. She was very adamant about there NEVER being a reason for nausea, she said there are plenty of medications for nausea and that she made sure in her training of the nurses that nausea is unacceptable.

Good luck to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
