Hello, I have been following this site for some time now and had a question. I am 34 years old 5'8" and about 240lbs. I am on high blood presure meds and also depresion/anxiety meds. Getting to my question I would like to know if anyone has had heart problems and still had the sleeve surgery. I had heart surgery when I was 15 for a rapid heart beat that has now been corrected but just recently found out the I have LVH (Left Ventrical Hypertrophy) due to my untreated BP. Also if you did have the surgery and had issues prior or no issues at all did you find that your heart rate stayed normal? I guess I am just looking for any information I can about heart conditions with the sleeve. Thanks in advance for all your information and someday I hope to be a member of the sleeve family.

Each and every case for wls is different. To get a more accurate answer to your question, it is best to consult with a wl surgeon. That is his/her scope of practice and they have the best answers. If you go on youtube.com and I believe it is Dr alvarez from Mexico that is open to questions and he will get back with you. I like his videos bc they are very informative. ;)

Thanks for the info..I do have a message out to my cardio Dr. I also wanted to get all the info I could from sleevers because they are the ones that have the most experience. Again thanks, and I will have to check out the youtube info.

My mom had the duodenal switch ten years ago. She had it open, not lap. She has a pacemaker. Everything went fine for her! Her heart has improved tremendously since she had WLS!

You should be fine, in my opinion. I have heard many good things of people with serious heart problems and previous heart operations having WLS.

Whew, that was my first post! :)

I have high BP. And anxiety. But heart is healthy. 4 days post op and been tachycardic since the day of surgery. My BP spiked for a day and wouldn't go down, however, my surgeon says this happens. And can be corrected. My BP is back to normal but my tachycardia may not subside for several more days. Your surgeon knows what he is doing. Don't worry. My surgeon was on top of everything. Checked my labs and treated anything that looked funny right away so I recovered pretty rapidly.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
